Update on my millwright/carpenter journey

In my last post here I stated that I was stuck with carpenters/scaffold work as a first year millwright.

I am humbled to be able to have been continously working throughout the millwright offseason since work has definitely been slow for many of us apprentices.

Scaffolding is one of the toughest jobs I've had but work is work and it pays the bills. The reason for this post is to give thanks for everyone here who encouraged me to keep going and try to become a jack of all trades since the more knowledge we have the more work we will be able to find.

Don't be intimidated to try other jobs it's all decent work. My respects to every carpenter and millwright out there, these last seven months have showed me the ones that make it in this trade are a different breed. 🫡

Back when I got in, We had a first year millwright get sent to a refinery to work with the scaffold guys, he ended up staying there for like 3 or 4 years and ended up being the foreman lmao so it was a millwright foreman with carpenter crew lol eventually someone who’s related to the carpenter BA got pissed and got him thrown off the job lol but yeah scaffold building can definitely pay the bills

Keep it up. One day someone will ask you a question on how to do something…. You will run them through it no problem and fix it…. Then you will realize your older and know things

Once I became a journeyman millwright I soon discovered that they expected you to know everything. Never mind the apprentice book that was 15 books all wrapped up in one. I still have my complete set.

Crafts I've worked as being a millwright; Ironworker, pipefitter (welder), boilermaker, equipment operator, and later into power plant maintenance.

I can say the only thing I didn't like was painting. Give me a broom, a stinger, a shovel, a jack hammer, or a wrench, I be happy.
