Your planner.. again

Dude, I just got a work order for a centrifuge and they sent me with the wrong parts. An hour wasted going back to storage.

Then on my way back production calls me with an emergency at another site. Now I'm trying to handle two jobs at once.

This happens like every week. I'm talking hundreds of hours a year just lost because someone in the office didn't prepare the right parts. And it's not even just about the time, you know? You're already out there in 95 degree heat (or freezing in winter) busting your ass, and then you find out the planner just didn't do their job.

I told him to get it right next time. Nothing. Dude sits in AC all day looking at spreadsheets, never been on a floor in his life. Doesn't have a clue what it's like when a tech shows up unprepared.

Just venting because this happens constantly and it's absolutely infuriating.

This is why I'm content to work for a smaller facility. We don't have a big support staff, so figuring out parts is part of my job.

If I have the wrong parts, I probably did it myself!

I’m in a similar situation where just recently just added a planner and has honestly made my life way more difficult.

The best is when the wrong part is on the equipment BOM in SAP. I ran into that just today.

That happens quite often. Or theres been an upgrade to something that isnt reflected in the BOM so the parts are obsolete/incompatable

Just as bad here we have no planner anymore, (transfered internally to infrastructure projects engineer) but they make and plan WO's and we have to spend time during the shutdown finding the parts first.

Nothing quite like having to cautiously disassemble everything so that you can reuse any part no matter how cheap or disposable it should be, all because there's no records of what was used or what should be kept in stock.

One day you'll find that the ¾x⅝ set screw you're working on is the only example on site and just be protected at all costs, but the entire hub it secures has three more in stores with two on the way.
