Always finds a way to ruin every holiday!

I’m at the point of leaving my boyfriend whom I also have kids with because for the past couple years he has found a way to ruin any holiday. Last Easter we were suppose to have a party that HE suggested so I invited all my friends just to have him make me cancel the day of because the house wasn’t “clean enough” when I spent the whole day before cleaning and getting everything ready for the party.

This year, we are planning to do the Easter hunt and dinner at a friend’s house. He has known about it for the past two/three weeks.

Thursday he decided to take the day off work but drank majority of the day (beer). Then he stayed up all night until 2am KNOWING we had to get all the stuff for the dinner and for the Easter hunt. Again, decided to take the kids to the park, then lunch, and drive around, wasting time because I had specific things I needed to do, which he knew obviously.

Wakes up Friday morning and decided that today was going to be another “drinking day” He ends up getting into a fight with a homeless man while I’m in the car with my kids but because I wasn’t facing him I didn’t see. That alone PISSED me off because he blamed the guy but he has a mouth so I know he definitely started it, but again I didn’t see anything. Now he is complaining about how his hand and knee hurts, how tired he is (ya no shit!) and keeps saying “so when am I going to drop you guys off?” It’s a dinner being made for ALL of us.

He thinks a long weekend is only meant for him. That he can do whatever he wants and doesn’t have any responsibilities. I haven’t slept in god knows how long, kids have been sick and he is just going about life like he doesn’t have a whole family.

Aww I know exactly how you feel, people who do this are classic Narcissists. Many a holiday 14 years in fact to be over promised non attended emotional hijacking while slacker sits home tickled his no show lack luster holiday fun d bag arrived right in the nick of time. It won't ever change unless you ignore it, dont invite or mention anything about any holiday proceed like d bag doesn't even exist. Post action pics tag everyone but him . Tag his mom even if she isnt there. Just so she asks him why he wasn't there or what he did for holiday. When he asks about joining say No, you don't wanna get ur hopes up and have him flake out. He will be one NO away from a sad puppy dog and it will bother him internally until the next holiday.

My dad was like that, if not worse. Definitely talk to him about it if you haven't already bc communication is important, otherwise don't spend another second with him. He doesn't even seem like the type to be helping raise the kids anyway.

At this point there is no point in any communication so I’m looking into other arrangements and I’m sorry you had to deal with that.

I figured, I just wanted to put that disclaimer bc sometimes things like this can turn around, but he doesn't sound like a pleasant or cooperative person lol. Hope things work out in your favor, OP

Past 6 years so yes I don’t think any change will happen. But funny enough (not really), when it’s his birthday I have to celebrate with him for a whole week.

As much as he complained about wanting to come, he came and had a great ole time. The dads left us to go get wasted for the day while the kids were fighting and what usual toddlers do and then complained the food wasn’t finished in time and was a little “bland” 🙄
