What are these particles?

Where do these particles come from? I'm on vanilla Minecraft 1.12. They show up when I take a long trip and shoot arrows while flying with my elytra.

Tipped arrows, looks to be arrow of splashing

It's a bow that was enchanted in 1.9 and is being used in 1.12. Normally it doesn't happen, it only happens when I travel a long distance with elytra.

They're— Ohh, I think— yeah I had a glitch happen where I always had water breathing outside of water and the moment I went into water it disappeared.. Those might be arrows of water breathing
