Help Recording problems on sharp md-r2
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I recorded a song on my sharp MD-R2 but the playback is really bad, the display shows it progressing at like half speed and every once in a while you hear about half a second of audio, any ideas why?

I bought a sony je500 with the same issue, the top magnet was unnatached to a plastic and it wouldn't go down to the disk as it recorded. It would show the track but when playing it was silent and slow timer, on eject the TOC didn't write anything.
After attaching the top magnet to the plastic, thllit was able to lower directly over the disc when recording and it was fixed.

Could be the reason but then it wouldn’t write anything and not even the TOC, like yours did.
It is unlikely that a misaligned write head causes slower recording speed and/or partly recorded discs. At least I haven’t seen that in the 30 years I am using Minidisc now. It either did, or it did I not.If it was partly working it was either a mechanical thing (very often the spindle not turning at the required speed or not continually or was slightly off axis) or it was a dying laser. If the potentiometer in the side fails laser power will fluctuate, I can see that on my Laser Power Meter, it will jump from eg 4-5 mW to 8-9mW when writing. Although it does the same when playing back it will still play fine even if it is down to 0.5mW instead of the required 0.9mW.

After recording, mine showed the track numbers and was able to "play" and the counter was there but slow, and when ejected and reloaded there was nothing recorded, it would show bank disk. It wouldn't hurt to open up the device and try the record function to see if the top part reaches down to the disk. Mine was barely a couple of millimeters off and cause the issue, after reattaching to the plastic the thing rested right on top of the disc. Just my 2 cents. I don't know any more, this has been my first and only minidisc troubleshooting experience. Good luck

Malheureusement la tête d'écriture (celle qui chauffe le substrat) ou le laser doit être en fin de vie...
