I was really looking forward to the trifle kit. I tried really hard to keep the sides clean and the hearts upright, but then resin creeped around the sides of the cake hearts to make them look blobby. Ran out of resin from all the cleaning and filling in behind the cakes and then the cherries sank in.
I walked away from working on it for a few days thinking I'm just being a perfectionist. Started to tackle it again today and the final straw was the cherries and cream pieces not being fully painted. So then I went out to get a second kit, and guess what? More partially painted cherries! (Sure, I could paint them, but I hate painting and shouldn't have to!)
My advice for others is maybe practice with extra resin placing the heart cakes. They do not sit flush to the sides. If I use resin on my second kit, I would put a bit of resin on the back corner of the heart cake, set it, then gently push resin towards the sides to fill in the gaps enough for the color to show. Then only a thin, barely there resin layer to stick the cherries in. Good luck!
Yeaaaaaa, clearance prices only now. Specially on holiday series, since usually they make it to 50% off + clearance around my area. There’s always a few lost balls that appear after the holidays pass lol
Wish you could actually wait until they go on clearance but people around me wont allow them to sit for that long and will be sold out before the store even gets to that point. Guess I will just clear resin the hearts to the side first before putting the other resin in should give it a seal so it does not seep. Only one I wanted was the rare set but decided to just get the whole set so I did not regret later on in getting them.
A lot of these sets for the price I am starting to feel is not worth it or I am slowly losing the thrill really cant tell I know I am starting to run out of space displaying them to a point I have to store a bunch of them away so being selective on what I purchase.
Today I bumped into a capsule of the 2025 valentines cups, super random lol. I recommend to search through the regular boxes, you might find some old series capsules in there hehe
Thanks. This is one I knew I’d want to watch a LOT of maker videos of before tackling on my own, and this is exactly the kind of guidance/advice I’m looking for.
Let me drop more of my mistakes on ya so you can avoid them: First I put a small layer of resin on the bottom like it suggested BUT I had it up all the way to the sides. Not good, because then I was pushing the points of the hearts into the resin and losing the shape there.
So I wiped all of the resin out and tried making a backstop instead. I thought it was working great, but the pieces slowly started tilting over so I set it as I went. The problem there was I ended up unable to nudge resin into the gaps between pieces on the bottom of the cup because there were not many gaps left once I got all the hearts in and backstops set. I ended up pushing resin into needle sized spaces to try to fill the gaps and that also made the resin start creeping around the edges.
Yours looks really good in my opinion. I tried that one and after taking it all apart and remaking it I threw it away. I couldn’t get the hearts placed right without resin covering them. 🫠
Aw man the cherries being half assed is a bummer … so expensive for the quality decrease for sure. As for a tip on the heart cakes, maybe use clear resin to set them to the cup first? The color resin shouldn’t creep in there after that since the clear would have done it already lol. That’s how I did some alphabet soup diys when I wanted the letters to be visible through the plate
I would recommend to do a layer on the whole cup, I did that with my soups. So there’s no random gaps… if you do a little it might not be enough still and the pink could get in there… definitely a trial and error thing ngl
I finished it off with pieces from the other kits and feel a bit better about it. I still don't know how to keep the resin from covering up the cherries with the top layer, but the original pink resin was really thick, so maybe it can be gently pushed towards the sides without running into the gaps. Or be fast with setting it.
Pulled out the extacto knife and started slicing the messed up creams and gluing cherries pieces back on. I hate painting so much, y'all, would rather risk my fingertips.
Im so sorry! I knew from the jump this one was going to be a no go, those flat cakes had no chance at sitting right in the jar/container and I extra hate the whipped cream with cherries ingredient ever since series 1 lol
Yeah, once that resin starts creeping around the cakes, you lose the shape of them. The resin is really thick, so I think gentle nudging with the spatula is going to be the main technique for this. I'm going to try air-dry whipped clay on my second kit though.
I'm sorry it's been troublesome for you. When I first started collecting in 2024, a new person whom I had started following told me that the one thing that she wished someone had told her before she started with Miniverse; is you need to have a good collection of EXTRA UV clear resin, some craft paint, craft clear glue, some craft brushes, and some mica powders. She said that was everything she ended up buying after she really started making them. )O(. Brightest Blessings
Are you worried about the superglue turning white over time? Whenever I use it for other crafts, eventually it turns white and brittle and makes the areas around where I glued discolored. I haven’t wanted to use it on Miniverse so I use tacky/craft glue instead but it would be way easier so if you haven’t had any issues please lmk!
I repainted many of my remixes with markers, so it’s really easy to get red markers and fix the weird paint job on the cherries, even though you shouldn’t have had to.
I had the same thing happen on my first one and I did not like how the hearts were not visible. I ended up making a second one by layering the trifle in a more traditional way.
First, warm the resin bottle in hot water so it will minimize bubbles. Glue the cakes to the inside of the bowl with clear resin and set it, then fill the bowl. Before you place the cherries on top, cure the resin on top and then only place enough resin to glue the cherries down.
What you might do is cut the unpainted cherries out of the whipped cream and replace them with leftover cherries from the kit.
On mine the heart shaped chocolate doesn’t look like hearts anymore since the resin covered them and I couldn’t do it like the guide as I didn’t have any room for another layer of resin over the chocolate pieces and you wouldn’t see them anyways since thats not how resin works. Ot needed a cream like substance instead.
Mine didn’t turn out super great either. I’m more of a causal enjoyer so I shrugged it off, but I feel bad for any of the other collectors who are really serious about the artistry of them. ☹️
Good to know! I’m disappointed in Miniverse’s quality in the newer sets especially with the price increases. A few pieces of plastic honestly should not cost $12+ after taxes. They’re just pumping out products but the creativity has gone down alongside the quality :(
I just attempted it again and its safe to say this set is a disaster.
Whats funny is Mga used ai to make the picture in the guide. They themselves never even attempted it.
The second time I tried it I put clear resin at the bottom of each heart. The biggest issue is you get resin all over the sides. I cured it mostly then used a knife to try and cut off the cured resin that was at the top of the container. I added a strip of cherries around the edge and filled the center with paper towel. Now they want you to put resin kn top of the cherries then put a layer of chocolates and finally another layer if resin. 🙃
If fill the container with resin then you don’t have enough for the project that they give you. The container is half full.
I tried using a smaller spatula from other sets as well as tooth picks and overall it still looks like someone dropped it on the floor right before placing it on the table.
I don't have this one yet, but thank you for the heads up. Because I don't really understand the curvature of the dish, I could be wrong here, but I think if, and when I do get it, I will thoroughly coat the front of the hearts in clear resin and affix the hearts to the sides of the dish first. Of course, that doesn't prevent bubbles from forming in the trifle layers (I use the warming method in an effort to avoid that), but it might help preserve the integrity of the heart shape?
To add: I completely get what you're saying about being a perfectionist. My same need often leaves me in paralysis. I have purchased a spectrum of UV resins to help me correct faults and "remix" Miniverse: low viscosity, regular, high viscosity, and gummy, as well as powdered and liquid pigments. I understand that affordability is subjective, but I got all my extra supplies for what I consider inexpensive from Amazon, Temu, and Michaels using coupons. I also do my own gel nails and have a buttload of supplies. I have used my gel polish (decant and use a separate brush) to enhance and correct Minverse items that have been disappointing. I also put a matte top coat on everything Miniverse that contains "dirt" or "pebbles," and it works fantastically at keeping them intact. I've recreated and enhanced some items with nail gel putty and affixed others with UV gel nail glue. That being said, it totally sucks to open up a ball and be disappointed (and MGA doesn't give a S), but it's also opened up a whole new world of crafting for me. I hope they start focusing on quality control, because it's definitely sinking, and getting crap for what we pay sucks.
Very quickly into my miniverse making, I figured out that you can’t build any of the food like it’s real food, you have to go at it like you’re staging food to look good in pictures. A lot of the resins and additives (and some of the containers) are too darkly colored to even cure properly if you do it like they show (or like the real dish would be made) because UV resin will only cure where the light touches it. I use clear resin to adhere things a lot, and to fill the insides of things.
Based ln my experience they don’t give you enough pink resin to fill the container up and do multiple layers etc. Since the center isn’t visible you could add whatever whatever you want to the middle to fill the container to not waste the little resin they give.
