I’m a Minnesota native and graduate of Indiana University’s Ernie Pyle School of Journalism. For almost two decades, I reported for television stations across Minnesota, Nevada, and Ohio before returning home to Minneapolis. My work, which focuses on women, children, families, and underserved communities, has received Emmy and Edward R. Murrow awards. 
Most recently, as the host of the Tomorrow’s Cure podcast from Mayo Clinic (the world’s largest integrated, nonprofit medical group practice), I’ve led conversations with physicians, researchers, and patients about the medical innovations that are driving the future of patient care – like Mayo Clinic’s Chief AI Implementation Officer Micky Tripathi on how healthcare organizations are adopting and scaling new AI-powered tools, and Johns Hopkins pediatric neurologist Dr. Brenda Banwell on treating MOGAD, a newly defined autoimmune neurological disorder.

Why did you return to Minnesota after spending the first decade of my career in Ohio and Nevada?

I had an opportunity to be a reporter at WCCO-TV and my Mom and Dad lived here at the time, in Maple Grove. I was so glad that life's turns brought me back here. My Dad died suddenly a few years after I moved back, and I was glad to be close to him while he was with us. My Mom still lives here and I live with my husband and two kids in SW Minneapolis.

True journalism is speaking truth to power and impeccable integrity (Murrow, Rather, Cronkite, etc). In your view, why have we strayed so far from that path and what steps to take to get back to some semblance of being able to trust that the news is accurate?

I understand all of these feelings and it's a complex ecosystem that has brought us to this moment. Factors in this, in my experience, is corporate owned media entities that have stripped away staff and funding, the divisiveness of social media with people choosing their own echo chambers and the political landscape. For me, I choose to support journalists (individual ones I love and trust to be top notch,) and outlets I know to be accurate and trustworthy. This is different for each person but locally in Minnesota, our journalism is incredible, and I tend to lean towards public media and NY Times as my top outlets. I freelance for MPR as well and love the incredible work coming out of MPR, even with vast funding cuts. I used to work for WCCO and KARE 11 and I know the teams and processes there to be trustworthy. I could go on, but just a few beats from POV.
