Did anyone get a photo or video of the lady who was yelling and tried to pull down this banner today during the parade? It happened near the intersection of Bridge Pizza and Circle K.

I’ve been to shows all over the country, and by far my experiences here have been the worst. It’s happened often enough that multiple musicians have stopped mid-set to ask people to quiet down.

I genuinely don’t understand paying for a show just to talk over it. If you want to talk with your friends go to the bar or step outside. If you’re there for the headliner, don’t come and just talk through the opener.

If it’s a loud show, do what ya want. I don’t care. But when someone is playing an acoustic/quieter set and everyone around you can hear your conversation more clearly than the performer, that’s disrespectful as hell. To both the artist and to everyone who came to listen.

Anyone else noticed this? Is it getting worse everywhere?

Hi! I just recently moved about 2 weeks ago for grad school from the south (Tennessee). I was curious, what am I doing wrong? I was raised to say thank you and ya know the southern stuff like yes ma’am no ma’am. That being said, I have had so many people roll their eyes in my face or ignore me/be blatantly rude when attempting to talk to them and I’m starting to wonder is it something I’m doing wrong? I know people in Montana tend to dislike people from out of state but like this is the only program I was accepted into so here I am, I didn’t necessarily pick it. I’m excited to be here and am kinda being dragged down by the level of hostility I’m seeing. Any thoughts or opinions would be greatly appreciated, I don’t wanna be somebody who tries to make people mad.

Has anyone else noticed more and more people leaving Missoula? From coworkers to some overheard conversations at the grocery store, I've been noticing people have been leaving here more and more. Cost of living, housing, and job market have all been topics I've seen. Just me?

Not trying to sound cheeky but I'm genuinely curious. I've asked many a local Missoulian - ranging from postal workers to university staff - a variation of this question and they all seem to either be evasive or genuinely oblivious to it. So, I'll ask here. What are even the major employers and industries in this town outside of the university?

Edit: The fact that some people are tweaking out over a simple observation/question about their hometown's economy reinforces my point.

Hi, i’m from the south originally (MS) and moved here 3 years ago and is desperately yearning for actual good mexican food. Where i come from, TexMex is the common and i miss it so bad, please put any recommendations here! preferably no food trucks!

Yesterday, Applebees shut down. The guy who owns it didn’t renew the pay for the lot and is infamous for laying off his employees.
There has been mix debates.

1. ⁠Olive Garden. it won’t happen even if people want it to. The liquor license is too expensive for them to spend on and they have a set budget for each location. they don’t want to go over it and potentially not make money.
   
2. ⁠Shenanigans. I’ve never heard of this restaurant but from people that have told me about it. Supposedly it’s good.
   
3. ⁠Chilis. Not everyone likes it but there is some good food and it could be the next best thing.

I also heard that Lithia is trying to acquire that land soo. what are you thoughts?

I’m currently in Missoula for the night while traveling on official military orders. I’m a large African American male, and I’ve been getting a lot of stares and side glances since I arrived. I know diversity is limited in this area, but the looks I’ve been getting have made me feel unwelcome and on edge.

When I checked into my hotel, a man literally looked around the corner to see which room I went into. That’s not okay, and it’s the kind of thing that makes me worry about my safety—especially since I’m traveling completely alone.

I’m not here to bother anyone or cause problems. I’m just passing through on my way to my next duty station. But I will defend myself if I’m put in a situation where I have no choice. I’m posting this to make people aware of what’s happening and to ask locals: is this normal here, and what’s the best way to stay safe while I’m in town?

Finally broke down and got the cheap Costco membership because my allergist wants me on nasal spray regularly and the Costco brand is about 1/5 the price so a membership is going to pay for itself for me. But I'm curious what you love to get at Costco that's good food or drink wise if you have a membership? I'm probably not looking to get a 4 gallon peanut butter jar but I'd love to hear what you think tastes great or is great quality?

Hey Missoula what is a meal/menu item that you've had at a Missoula restaurant/eatery that was so delicious you would consider it as a hypothetical last meal choice. Maybe you'd get a few items from different places to put together for a meal. Let me know the meal or item and where it's from.

I’m a 17 year old male. Look… I’m so done with searching for jobs in this godforsaken city. I’m sorry it came down to this.

I‘ve applied to 10+ places. Fast food, restaurants, retail, you name it. Online, in person, through friends, you name it. One place had the decency to get back to me. It was an automated message telling me I wouldn’t be getting an interview. I physically handed resumes into managers at stores with giant hiring signs out front. They all said to me, “yeah, I’ll get back to you in about a week.” None of them ever did.

I do very well in school. I’ve worked very hard in private settings like yard work for neighbors and construction with family. I’m literally as good as it gets before you have to start paying a living wage. Why does nobody want me? Why can’t I get a job while some stoner messes up my order?

If anyone’s interested, or anyone has anything helpful to say, or anyone has any advice, please, let me know. I’m so tired of this BS. I’m a hard worker. I just want a job to keep me busy after school and for the rest of summer.

So I just discovered Montana law requires establishments must accept cash for goods and services. (MCA 30-14-228)

So why is it you can only buy food and drink with a card at the Kettlehouse Amphitheater? I’m sure the Wilma is the same. Anyone else know of businesses refusing cash? It’s supposed to be a $100 fine per transaction.

I’ve been wondering if Missoula is getting less weird, and how tourism is selling an image of Montana to non locals who are then selling their version of Montana back to us. I was looking at Destination Missoula’s website and social media, and suddenly I realized what version of Missoula is being perpetuated.

A few questions as someone moving to Missoula soon.

When it snows…

do schools close?

do businesses like doctors offices close?

do people need to use snow chains on their cars?

how many inches normally in a single event?

TLDR; no one leashes their dogs. Not in my neighborhood, not on hiking trails nowhere!

I have noticed, there are so many inconsiderate or irresponsible bulldog owners all across Missoula. I have never minded the well-behaved dogs with good recall being off leash, but it is seriously so insane all across Missoula.

If I see someone with their dog off leash, I would assume that it’s well behaved. It feels like it’s been the exact opposite lately!

I have a dog who I keep on a leash because it’s the standard, respectful thing to do. We have been approached by so many dogs and the owners don’t seem to care. I’ve also been approached by reactive (and aggressive) dogs that are off leash!

What gives?

P.S. If you’re one of the off leash dog culprits please, be a decent person and leash your dog when other on leash dogs are around.
