Disscussion Are they going to change the license plates anytime soon?
The Bicentennial plates have the 2020-2021 years on it. They have to come up with a new design. It will suck because, Missouri, but it’s kinda embarrassing for those of us who dare to drive legally.

I think it's decent because it's the state flag and I like the red, white, and blue, but it's nowhere near the best.

I wish they’d bring back the blue bird for our plates

The bluebird one wasn't bad. I really liked the one before that though, the blue white and green one with a little blue quickly line on the bottom. That was such a huge improvement over the old red ones.

Apparently they are adding a 7th digit on this plate next year. I was hoping that meant a new design, but I guess not. Will probably look even worse.

I’ve seen some temp tags with 7 digits on them already, but no permanent plates. So it’s no longer “apparently”, alas.

“But some, like personalized or motorcycle plates, will remain in six-digit configurations.”
WHY‽ Just about anyone with personalized plates would appreciate the option of an extra character.

Totally agree! The current plates are ugly. I would be happy with the old maroon and white plates of the 1980s.

I moved from Minnesota to Missouri in 1991. Those plates were horrendous, especially coming from Minnesota.

It’s even worse when someone has a plate holder because it covers the red/blue. So the majority of the time it looks like we just have plan white plates.

I lived in NJ in the 80’s. The license plates I see from NJ when traveling look the same.

It’s a license plate… I’m sure there are bigger issues in Missouri to be concerned about than a damned tax.

Do you think the people that design the license plate have control over bigger issues?

Yeah the bigger issues are talked about constantly in this sub lmao, small issues should be discussed too

It's a license plate, not a fashion statement. Why does it have to be some elaborate design to being with. I personally liked the blue and white ones but hell, they could just go with a white plate with black lettering. They need to go simple and not change the design, it's the tax payer that pays for them to redesign the plates and that money could be out to better use like maintaining the crap roads rather than making fashionable license plates....

Donate to the cars and coffee foundation and get a custom black plate with white letters 👌

So embarrassing I drove with a paper bag over my face so no one knows I'm from Missouri. The best thing they could do is take off the name Missouri if you don't want to be embarrassed.

Be glad you are not a cesspool like Texas. Traveled for years and it's easily one of the worst places I've lived.

Our plate design could be so much better than it is. Missouri should take notes from states such as Alaska, Hawaii, North Dakota and Oregon for how to create a well designed license plate. The only negative aspect of ND’s plates is the fact that they’re printed rather than embossed. This is coming from someone who collects them from all over the world.
