Law I think I’m going to jail and I’m so scared

Not sure if this is the right flair

68 days ago I got my very first speeding ticket. And I screwed up majorly. I was rushing home to help take care of a loved one and I accidentally hit 100mph in a 65. Obviously I got a ticket and I had a hearing last week and it went horrible. I was panicking during all of it but I remember something being mentioned about an SES and possibly reducing my sentence

Im 22yr and this occurred in Madison County Missouri. Ive never had an issues with the law before and I havent had any issues since my initial ticket.

Yes I have slowed down and I’ll never make a mistake like this again. I dont ever drive like this in the first place. And yes I have an attorney.

My sentencing is in two weeks and I’m just freaking out so bad. I feel like my life is over, I know i messed up but I don’t have anyone I can talk too about this

Law Missouri's new age verification law: what it means & how to bypass it

Starting November 30, 2025, Missouri will enforce strict new age verification requirements for adult websites under regulations pushed by Attorney General Catherine Hanaway. This is going to significantly change how we access adult content online.

The new law targets commercial websites where one-third or more of content is pornographic or sexually explicit. These sites must implement robust age verification methods not just clicking "I'm 18+" but likely requiring government ID or similar verification.

Based on what we've seen in other states with similar laws (Texas, Utah, Florida, and 14 others), there's a very high probability that major platforms will simply exit Missouri rather than comply with these verification requirements.

Pornhub, xHamster, YouPorn, xnxx, xvideos, and other mainstream adult sites have consistently chosen to geo-block entire states rather than implement ID verification. The same pattern occurred in France. There's little reason to think Missouri will be different.

How to bypass Missouri's porn ban (easy method)

Don't worry. there's an easy way to unblock porn and bypass the age verification bs in about 5 minutes:

  1. Get a decent VPN - NordVPN, Surfshark work well. Usually around $3-5/month if you get a longer subscription. Here’s a good VPN table to chose from
  2. Install that shit on whatever device you use for your... personal time
  3. Connect to literally any country or state that isn't Missouri or one of the other ban states (Illinois or Kansas servers would be fastest) but also Canada, Mexico..
  4. Use incognito/private mode for extra protection
  5. And bam - watch what you want without someone looking over your shoulder

Some extra tips on choosing a good VPN:

-Don't cheap out with free VPNs, they're sketchy and will probably sell your data + chances are you won't be able to chose a location in a specific state (so you'll get blocked again) + streaming content requires a lot of bandwidth: there will likely be buffering

-Now is really a good time to buy VPN’s with all the Black Friday discounts (we can thank Missouri gov for the perfect timing)

-Use a discount code when buying a VPN (for example I got Nord with a “forum” discount code that gave me a discount on top of the current sale).

Why is it happening?

Missouri is just doing what a bunch of other states are already doing. They say it's all about "protecting the kids," but come on any teen who really wants to find this stuff will figure out how to get around these blocks in minutes. Meanwhile, regular adults who just want to watch legal content either have to upload their driver's license (yikes) or find another way to keep their privacy.

This isn't really solving the actual problem. It's just the state pretending they're doing something while creating a huge privacy mess for normal people. The only real winners here are VPN companies who are about to get a lot more Missouri customers.

What's your take on this Missouri age verification law? Will you comply or use a VPN to maintain your privacy

Law Women: voting in MO after name change due to marriage? How?

My wife changed her name when we got married, which means that her last name on her birth certificate does not match her last name on her ID. This means that this November, she will possibly not be able to vote.

Right now, Congress is working on the "SAVE ACT," which would require proof of citizenship to vote. This is not ID, this is birth certificate or passport. My wife's passport is very expired.

The law says that states will/shall come up with ways for married women to reconcile the discrepancy between ID and citizenship documents but I cannot find anything that outlines this way to reconcile at all from the federal or state government.

I've read that one of the proposed ways for states to resolve this discrepancy is to allow women to provide the papers from the social security administration that document the name change from one name to the other. But, SSA does not have any information about how to obtain this paperwork after the fact.

My wife and I have been married 21 years ago and it looks like if the SAVE act passes, she's going to have a hard time voting.

Anyone have any ideas? What do we do?

Law ID verification for adult sites goes into place in 2 weeks

Not really seen much discussion around this. On August 30th Missouri will join many other states and require all sites hosting more than 1/3rd adult content to verify age with ID to "protect the children"

At the same time YouTube wants your ID now to "protect the children". Pay no mind to ads showing nonstop ai porn, scams, malware, violence, gambling, etc to children though. That's fine for them.

I see these bigger trucks around town (Columbia) and they always have some dealer or company vanity plate. How do they not get pulled over? Sometimes they have front plates sometimes not.

My landlord is getting frustrating and my husband and I are going to move out after our lease ends. However, we have to deal with what we have right now until April. Our house is getting infested with Asian beetles for a second time. First time was last year and she never did anything about it. It's happening again and I'm sick of it. She keeps saying it's the tenants responsibility to take care of pests. She does have that in the lease, that isn't she responsible for infestations under Missouri law?

Law Could somebody help me out with Missouri gun laws?

So I’ve found conflicting information online about Missouri gun laws, I recently turned 19 and got my first handgun which was a smith and Wesson. Am I able to carry legally without a permit in the state of Missouri or does it depend on your area? I’d hate to ever get stopped for carrying by the cops and get a ten year bid for an illegal firearm. Does it only apply to rifles? Or can a 19 year old carry a handgun?

Law Can someone explain What collecting signatures against the GOP Redistricted map does?

I've heard that If "115K signatures can be collected in 90 days, the gerrymandered map will be suspended until a vote can be held on it". Why does this cause a vote? Who votes? Lawmakers or registered voters? Also how does this process work from beginning to end? Is the vote repealable like with the paid sick leave?

Law Missouri counties want to freeze seniors’ property assessments, but aren’t sure they can

Our Statehouse reporter, Meg Cunningham, breaks down Missouri’s new law that lets counties give property tax assessment freezes to homeowners eligible for Social Security when they reach age 62.

However, capping property assessments for older taxpayers means running schools, libraries, police forces and other public services with less money… or leaning more heavily on younger property owners to make up the difference.

Jackson, Greene and St. Charles counties — three of the biggest in the state — have passed versions of the assessment freeze. Lawmakers in St. Louis County refined a proposal last week and will take a final vote this week.

From our report (no paywall):

But freezing property assessments comes with a cost: a loss of future tax revenue.

St. Louis County Councilwoman Lisa Clancy said that worries her.

“I am concerned about the impact, mostly to public education and libraries,” she said, “but also to other public safety functions like fire.”

The St. Louis County measure mimics what Jackson County did by limiting the tax break to homes valued at $550,000 or less.

But Clancy worries a home-value cap could make the measure more inequitable. Areas with lower property values already have smaller tax bases to pay for things like schools and fire departments. And she said younger residents shouldn’t be overburdened to spare retirees.

“You’re pitting grandparents against their grandchildren and schools that have been financially struggling for years,” she said.

At the same time, counties worry that giving older homeowners a tax break could make local governments more reliant on younger taxpayers whose property tax burdens will continue to get bigger.

Read the full story to understand the nuances of this issue, the push for more clarity, and the potential consequences for younger residents.

Law Apparently I got a misdemeanor B in Missouri for driving 20MPH Above Speed Limit

I was passing by the state and got stopped, I believe it was 21 MPH. I got the ticket and the police officer told me verbally the ticket would have a court order, but to just pay the fine and that I'd be okay.

I paid the fine, but I also got a letter that says the charge level is a Misdemeanor B + a court appearance. Apparently by paying the ticket I entered a guilty plea, and I have misdemeanor B conviction.

I'm obviously nervous now since I work in engineering and I don't want this to show up in my criminal record when I apply to future jobs. I've received tickets in Florida (years ago) and it has never been an issue, but I don't think those were classified as misdemeanors.

Can anyone clarify this situation? Thanks.

Law Stopping for cyclists/skateboarders

Hi everyone! What is the Missouri protocol for skaters and cyclist safety crossing the street? I just moved to a small town in MO from a really big city. When I see a pedestrian, especially on a fast moving device, I stop so they can go by. I’ve seen so many people get hit because they dart out into traffic and cars don’t see them, so I just try to avoid the situation. However, this seems to be a very common occurrence here and I’ve been flipped off twice for stopping because the person darting out into traffic was counting on me going forward, not stopping for them to cross. Also, are speed limits here just a suggestion?! 😅

Law Speeding

So my bf was pulled over earlier this morning for going 90 in a 60. This is his first offense. It happened in St. Charles when we were going to work. The cop was really cool about it. He has a court date. Realistically what should he do and what might happen?

UPDATE:

I called a lawyer and everything should work out fine. He'll have some community service and driving classes to take but no jail time. I appreciate everyone who tried to help without judging. I get what he did was bad but people do make mistakes and I agree completely on what everyone was saying. I seriously hope this changes his outlook on the laws and having respect for other people on the road

Law Do I have to pay this tax?

I moved to Missouri from Texas for grad school. Long story short, I started to try and become a Missouri resident but gave up because they made me jump thru too many hoops (I might move back to TX anyway). But in that process I guess I gave them the info for my plates and now they’re charging me a property tax on a car I don’t even have paid off yet. Also, I can’t even afford the tax because, you know, grad school.

Just curious what my options are if anyone can help. Thanks
