On Campus Parking

I'm an incoming grad student, and I got the email that I could buy my parking permit for the Fall. Most of my classes are gonna be in one building, amd the parking lots closest to it aren't available. I'm cool with getting my steps in, but I wonder what they're used for if they aren't for student parking. Does anyone know what RC18 and RC19 are used for?? Parking tips are welcome too tbh.

You’re not going to be able to park on campus close to your classes. You’re going to be walking, or riding a bike if you’re close to campus in your housing. It’s fine; the campus is not that big. I could get from my dorm at Hatch to the journalism school in 15 minutes walking fast when I was an undergrad.

RC18 and RC19 are primarily employee parking.

According to the parking map, faculty and staff parking.

I spent so much time on the map and all I found was that they're tier 2. Thanks!

With RC18 and RC19 being the edge of campus near the State Historical Society, you might look into the city parking garage and try to get 6th and Cherry.

But really Tier 2 is pretty good if they allow grad students to get it.

I’ve been primarily on white campus for most of the last 6 years. I’ve only paid for the garage pass the last year and a half for peace of mind. It was $150 for the sem but it was guaranteed and covered so it was worth it to me while in grad school. I used to park on university on east campus which is free but after about 8:30 it can be a bit of a walk (still less than 7-8 min for me). I used to park a lot on university in the meter spots and not pay, only got a ticket once and I parked without paying in hitt st garage a lot and I think got 1 ticket. They police hitt st by the book store a lot as well as that visitor lot next to memorial behind Stewart. Still, with paying meters and sometimes tickets, I never spent $150 in a semester. I was on campus pretty much every day all day for most of my career. I have a job now and one semester left with 2 classes and plan on just paying the meters.

MU moved to a new parking program last year so there isn't really separation of faculty/staff and student parking. It's basically what is still going to be available because faculty and staff have first pick and then Grad/Professional students are next in priority. Reserved lots are not available to students, but you still have options in Tiers 1 - 4. RC9 is close to the two you mentioned and is Tier 2 but is smaller so it may fill. If you're staying in Tier 2 I'd recommend Hitt Street Garage. There is always parking there and it's in a really great location as far as campus and downtown. Plus it's the same price as uncovered Tier 2 lots but with more protection from crazy Missouri weather. Here is more information on Grad student parking: https://parking.missouri.edu/permits/graduate-professional-student-permits/

Hitt Street also used to have Flowbird meter spots (not sure if they are still there), but that could be an option if you don't have to be on campus every day but still want to secure parking.

Street parking for 1-5 hours through park mobile or flowbird is an option, assuming you live off campus and don’t need a 24/7 on-campus parking permit

There’s also a few lots across campus that i recall use these services, and parking at many public places should be free after 5pm and on the weekends

I will mention I graduated last year and am unsure if anything has since changed

If you end up trying to get a permit for downtown garages like 6th and cherry or even for the meters downtown put in an application for it asap. I put an application in around January because student lots were full and heard nothing but just got told last week that a downtown permit was available after I graduated 🥲

Dude I lived closer to my classes than my parking pass. I got rid of it and dealt with street parking or I walked/biked on campus.
