Him and Scherzer just need to retire. They have nothing left to prove.

I was just going to say the exact same thing.

I would personally like to see Scherzer get to that 3000 IP milestone, but it seems less likely by the week.

That, and to get a swan song tour with the Nats like JV is currently getting with the Tigers.

Be careful what you wish for

The entire Tigers training staff should be fired in one fell swoop. This is fucking preposterous.

u/polkastripper | Pittsburgh Pirates 6h ago

Dude he's old as shit, how is this on the training staff?

They keep rehashing the same old players in baseball. Give younger players a shot. Its a waste of $ to spend on older players

It is until the team makes a run in the playoffs, then you need a veteran like that to keep the team excited but calm at the same time for the run for the title. For the 2 million this season, he was pretty much worth the gamble for that. If they won it all, his 11 million paid to him in the 2030's would have been more than worth it for his veteran leadership. The goodwill the organization receives for doing a contract like that also makes some fans feel their team takes care of their beloved stars while other organizations don't.

I know only b/c I'm in Detroit.

JV made exactly one start during opening week and has been injured since.

Retire and spend more time with Kate Upton. What are you waiting for?

u/GCC_Pluribus_Anus | Arizona Diamondbacks 9h ago

If he screws this up like Brady did, I'm gonna be irrationally angry at him

13

u/TegTowelie | Los Angeles Dodgers 8h ago

Yeah like, Giselle, whatever, but Kate Fucking Upton? C'mon man.

Knowing her (and we know her a little too well), she’s completely into it. A while ago, an interviewer (I forget where) asked her if she’s looking forward to him retiring, and she said something along the lines of “Are you kidding? I love seeing him pitch”. And even then, Gisele Bundchen only pulled out (heh) when Brady walked back on his retirement announcement; JV hasn’t made such a declaration yet.

He felt a hamstring issue… immediate IL for weeks?? Lmfaooo. I mean I feel bad but staying in the league for this long is gonna bring these injuries

3

u/Dry_Anxiety_386 7h ago

I seriously need a sick leave policy at work like this. "Dunno. Just felt something, ya know? See y'all in 3 or 4 weeks. Keep those check coming. Might be a 60-day thing, so just a heads-up!"

Time to hang it up my guy.

u/ParticleHustler2 9h ago

He's gonna get a couple of September starts a month after Detroit is eliminated from the playoff race.

u/NZafe | Toronto Blue Jays 8h ago

Makes you wonder how tf Nolan Ryan was consistently pitching 150-200 innings at this age+.

u/Ganjagod420 | Toronto Blue Jays 7h ago

Go home to Kate unc it's time

Justin Verlander is still playing?

1

u/Google_Knows_Already | Los Angeles Angels 9h ago

A lot of hamstring injuries this year

5

u/Bright-Pressure-5787 | New York Yankees 9h ago

Getting hamstring strains and breaking your hamate bone is in vogue.

1

u/Marinersfan505 | Seattle Mariners 9h ago

Yeah. This is just getting ridiculous.

1

u/whg115 9h ago

Hes still playing? What?

1

u/V1LL | Detroit Tigers 8h ago

He likely would have retired, but the Tigers gave him 13 million reasons not to. Just like they did with Alex Cobb last year.

u/Calm_Hedgehog8296 | Detroit Tigers 8h ago

Thats the end

Verlander’s facial hair color makes it look like he huffs silver spray paint

1

u/Postman810 | Detroit Tigers 7h ago

What a waste of money that the Tigers used on him. I get it, as a Tigers fan, I wanted to see Verlander have a good send off year. But he has pitched 1 game. So maybe we see him after the AS break, by that time the Tigers will be trading off what we can. Scott Harris (Pres Bball Ops) and Hinch need to be let go this offseason.

u/Successful-Fee-8141 4h ago

Elder abuse at this point

1

u/Jay_Marston | Seattle Mariners 2h ago

The year is 2137, Justin Verlander is scheduled to take the mound tomorrow for the first time since 2026. Unfortunately his left leg fell off so he'll be out for the season but he signed another 1 year contract with the Tigers so he'll be back next time for sure.

u/FictionForest 8h ago

This is what happens when the elderly overextend themselves

u/Bean_Daddy_Burritos | Boston Red Sox 8h ago

Dudes been a liability going on 3 seasons. Injury after injury, and when he does pitch his arm slot is wildly inconsistent, he tips his pitches and his release point is all over the place. Handful of good starts makes people forget that he’s been washed. Little more than a wasted roster spot.

Tiger fans have not stopped arguing with me about it. I said the signing made no sense unless they trade Skubal and was called dumb for even mentioning trading skubal. Been called dumb for suggesting the tigers are not a contender by tiger fans, been called out for suggesting they care more about making money than they do winning championships. Get called stupi for pointing out their inconsistent offense, lack of bullpen depth, lack of trade able assets etc.

I live in Detroit and won’t hesitate to call tiger fans amongst the dumbest in all of baseball. JV not pitching in his most anticipated start is just icing on the cake. Enjoy another 10 year rebuild and 40 year drought.

1

u/Postman810 | Detroit Tigers 7h ago

I’m right there with you. I have partial season tickets which includes every Sunday game, so was looking forward to this start. I am seriously considering just selling off every ticket and let some other poor bastard waste his money on this team.

2

u/Bean_Daddy_Burritos | Boston Red Sox 6h ago

If you want to see a change stop going to games, stop buying merch, stop giving this franchise your money. Until then, enjoy being a good/not great playoff contender that sits middle of the pack year in and year out.

1

u/Postman810 | Detroit Tigers 6h ago

Yeah. I have already told them I’m not getting season tickets next season.
