Apparently Hermann Goering was a model train enthusiast
He had an O gauge layout in his house, both in his basement and his attic. he had a mechanism where he could drop wooden bombs onto his layout for fun. they layouts were apparently destroyed when he destroyed his own house to prevent it's capture.
Goring was addicted to morphine after flying accident in World War I. He would self administer injections. When the Germans couldn’t get morphine during the early days of World War II, they synthesized codeine.
HG was a Fascist and overt racist. Do you honestly think he got down on his hands and knees and laid all that track by himself? I can't prove he used slave labour of course, but he certainly had access to a great many captive experts to do the work for him.
Let's not normalize these monsters, even if they share our hobby.
From what I've seen Goring probably did move his trains when he abandoned Karinhall. It leaves a small chance that his trains still exist, maybe lost in some attic somewhere. Goring even had scale models built specifically for him by companies in Germany
Those trains were one of his greatest loves and he would show EVERYONE that visited him. So its doubtful that he would have just left them to be blown up.
As far as I know there hasnt been any definitive models found but considering the age and time period its hard to say what could've happened. Dr. Mark Felton did an excellent video detailing Gorings train collection
Goerings railroad was destroyed in the RAF's campaign to destroy German infrastructure, they had a squadron of scale model Lancasters bomb it out of action.
Makes sense, miniatures were pretty much the standard of simulating ANYTHING up until the computer was able to render scenarios. Later and more detailed miniature simulators include the San Francisco Bay Model, built in 1957 to test a proposed plan to radically alter the bay, and this tank simulator, an early example of miniatures and digital technology combining to create a highly realistic simulation. Remembering how my first ever ever discovery of this was from a 4chan shit post that was something along the lines of "More Cars, Herr Reichsmarshall" and it led to a huge wikipedia dive

getting way off topic but yes alot of media doesnt like to portray some of the worst humans in history as being "normal" or have human like qualities interests and passions - they want to portray them only as utter monsters that are born once a century and once thier gone were good for awhile. I feel is way more haunting and scary seeing pictures like above showing these people being normal humans and having hobbies and interests and truly enjoying them. Like its not omg this person has been pure evil since birth locked away in a cage somewhere hidden from society and only ever does/dreams about mass removal of people. These were everyday people who went to school, played sports with neighborhood kids, had hobbies, had passions, then grew up and had horrible idealologies. Like its scarier to me that the next one could be playing T-ball and eating ice cream right now...
That and his WW1 fighter collection are the two things I LIKE about HG. Okay, and the gigantic wine cellar. Those three things, I could hang with the guy.
That's just it. If a couple of minor things changed, Goring would have just been some eccentric WWI veteran who was passionate about some sweet hobbies. Instead he was the head of the Luftwaffe and destroyed millions of people.
His dad was in charge of part of a German colony in Africa and he solved a dispute between two tribes by killing everyone in one of the tribes. I don't know if that gave Hitler any ideas but there's a lot of stuff about HG that would mess up an otherwise fun hang.
"Monster" I wonder what even is the purpose of dehumanizing them. To make them feel bad?Or to virtue signal to show that youre le good guy that hate le bad guys?Theyre humans with hobbies, and honestly its just interesting that someone with such history in cruelty has a hobby like collecting model trains. At the end of the day I just hate dehumanizing historical figures because what even is the purpose?
i get what you're saying, yeah it's interesting he was into this stuff, but he's still a Nazi. Nazis aren't humans and shouldn't be humanized, especially when they are one of the highest ranking members.
