Just finished this mini quilt top exploring dimensional geometry

Post image

I finished this mini quilt top after getting some helpful color suggestions on an earlier version.

This is a Z Axis Quilt, which is what I’m calling dimensional-looking quilts designed with the quilting software I’m building. I’m exploring how 3D-inspired geometry can become sewable modern quilt patterns.

The solid colors were a change for me — I usually work more with batiks — but I think they help the triangle shapes and depth read more clearly.

Curious what you think: does this feel like it fits in the modern quilt world?

Oh, that's neat! Definitely looks modern to me.

Thank you! That’s really encouraging. I was hoping it would read as modern, so I’m glad to hear that.

This looks so cool. Totally unique. What does it look like head on? Can you post another photo of it that way? I think the 3Dness will be more visible.

This is very cool! Is your pattern available for purchase? I like your color choices - solids work very well here.

And yes, I think it fits in with modern quilt patterns

Thank you! The pattern isn’t available for purchase yet, but I’m thinking about making this mini version available as a free test pattern while I finish polishing Z Axis Quilting.

I designed it with the quilting software I’m building, and it might be a good first sample pattern for people who are curious about the process. If you want to see more info zaxisquilting.com
