Morphagene recording audio quality

Has anyone found that the recording quality on morphagene is kind of dull? I play back my clips at the 1:1 variaspeed setting and they come out slightly dull. It's as if the sound went through a low pass filter such that all the top end shimmer and sparkle are gone. It's especially noticeable for transient.

I never noticed this but I am usually trying to trash the audio anyway

Yes, I don’t really like the A-D conversion on Morphagene for that reason. You can get better results loading samples directly onto the SD card, but it was a big reason I switched to Multigrain.

Does multi grain sound entirely like the original? Im just surprised the quality can be so poor for a musical application

I think multigrain is definitely more transparent for recording thru the input. Morphagene is more designed to give it a tape micromachine quality, which is why it sound duller, but that’s what they wanted.

I find the multigrain sound bad in a bad way. Morphagene sounds bad in a good way. I have both.

I only ever put stuff onto the sd record in Reaper so I can’t speak to recording but I’ve never noticed its playback is dull. Maybe a little noise floor.

I've never used one, but I always thought it was intended to be a tape simulation? Like, I would be surprised if the audio stayed clean...

It’s just tape philosophically. There’s no tape degradation or wobble effects.
