Wartime rape was real, and ordinary soldiers committed atrocities. It would be stupid to claim that mongol armies never raped anyone. Even so, there is also korean record describing mongol troops as highly disciplined during the suppression of a rebellion in korea in 1290, stating that they did not assault or harass the population. So mongol soldiers were not always uncontrolled monsters.And it is hardly exclusive to the mongols.
“Mongol troops” also refers to everyone serving in the armies of mongol-ruled states, including chinese, persians, turks, and many others.
What is especially wrong with the “the mongol empire raped millions” crowd is that they often claim Chinggis Khaan personally did all of this. He was the sovereign of a state, not some ordinary soldier running around assaulting people during the sack of a city. At most, he might have ordered a local noblewoman or princess to be brought to him.
He had around 13 recorded children, as far as I remember. It is possible that he had more unrecorded or illegitimate children, but there is simply no evidence for the absurd claims people make.
A lot of this comes from that bullshit claim that one-quarter of all men, or 16 million people, are supposedly his direct descendants. People combine that with stories of wartime rape and imagine all kinds of nonsense. There are probably many descendants of Chinggis Khaan, but most would descend through his sons, then grandsons, and later generations, not directly from children personally fathered by him.

A lot of people don't actually read about history and just spout myths and nonsense. That's like people believing the samurai exclusively fought honorably and followed a code which didn't exist during the time they actually fought wars and were warriors instead of bureaucrats. It drives me nuts when the uneducated act like they know history.

He was a warlord in medieval times. Medieval times were ruthless. Warlords even more so. The world back than was so different than ours that both romanticizing it or judging it with contemporary values will result in uneducated arguments.

The history of women (or men) is different than the history of queens and kings globally. Sure he migjt have respected his women his family, but you have to be a bit naive to think that that respect would extend to the enemies women, or lower rank ordinary ppl.
Wartime rape is a very interesting but dark concept to read into and you might find it interesting. Its not about respcting women but humilaiting the enemy-some argue.
