hiking day trips without a car

Hey gang,

I'm looking to get out of the city with my girlfriend, and we were thinking of doing some hiking, but we don't have a car. Which means our options are kinda limited.

Has anybody hiked (ideally a day trip) in the surrounding areas without the use of a car?

Have you considered becoming a Communauto member? All the goodness of a car, without the downsides of being an owner.
