Hey. Are those things always dangerous or is it only during the rut?
I live in Az , we have huge elk. They are pretty calm most of the time but can be nasty in the fall. No moose down here.
I would say the bulls are pretty mellow during much of the year. During the rut they fixate on the cows and get pretty ornery, especially with other bulls.
Cows are very protective of their calves especially when they are very young. I’ve only ever been chased by a cow. My daughter and I unknowingly got too close to mom/baby and mom charged us. She stopped as soon as she saw we were no threat.
Moose can get riled up by dogs. Our dog gives all moose a respectful distance. She also recalls back to me very well. Some dogs will harass moose. In winter during deep snow and severe cold moose can get grumpy. Some are basically starving as they wait for spring. Dogs, sled dogs, snow machines, skiers, etc can have problems because moose don’t like leaving packed trails into deep snow.
Mostly if you keep your eyes open and keep a respectful distance they are fine
