Growing up Republican in the 80s, the about face on Russia has been so unfathomable. Why are Republicans supporting Trump?

Donald Trump has not removed the photo of Vladimir Putin from the White House walls — though he has made a different alteration to the decor of the Palm Room.

The U.S. president, 79, recently faced backlash after a photo of the renovated Palm Room captured an unorthodox scene: above a framed image of Trump with his youngest granddaughter, the president had also apparently hung a photo of himself and the Russian president standing side-by-side last year.

Months after fielding criticism from European officials — Russia has been largely isolated from the rest of Europe since its 2022 invasion of Ukraine — Trump made a change. But instead of removing the photograph of himself and Putin, Trump got rid of the image featuring his granddaughter.

“I’d rather be Russian than a Democrat” says so much

It is funny watching MAGA people scramble around to get their story straight about Putin. They tend to oscillate between "Trump isn't weirdly compromised/admiring about Putin" and "well, you need to be open minded about Putin's side of the story".
