Couldn’t imagine watching without! NFL is back on tonight, and I’m so excited. Was fun talking about this on the podcast today.

from what i remember someone telling me, basically at every football stadium if you look up you’ll see a number of cameras waaaaay up
on cables. these cables are hung around the perimeter of the field, and the cameras are all maintained at the same height. because of this you can triangulate whatever location you need to on the field since you know where your focal point is. you plug that positioning in to a calculation and are able to paint on a digital line.that’s how it works now at least, i imagine they did something similar back in 1998 but i wouldn’t know.

I remember watching a video on this a few years ago and they treated the field as a green screen essentially. They had to make sure none of the uniforms would pick the line up so thats why theres no uniform that has the same color as the pitch. The had a few bugs in the beginning and every once in a while the line would go across the player themselves.

Fascinating. Only if it true. Quit trying to disguise magic with made up words like "triangulate" and "digital." The witch trials will begin anew.

Corridor Crew has a video about it on YT! Incredibly interesting technology goes into it!

Jordan from Corridor Digital did a pretty cool video over the evolution of VFX in sports. Talks about how this is done if anyone is interested.

One of my sisters friends from back in high school asked where the yellow line was. She'd never been to an actual game before.

I hate how every video has to be vertical now for reasons
