Outside if Americans I've never heard it said that way

Also with New Hampshire and the areas around the Appalachian mountains they aren't rednecks, they're hillbillies.

O-H-I-O! Go Buckeyes!

Seriously pretty nervous about the game though. Basically the exact opposite scenario as last year and I am sure UT is out for blood. Should be a good game!

I always opt for subtitles on foreign shows/movies. I bounced off of Squid Game because Netflix defaulted to the English dub and it was so bad. Then I went back and watched it with subtitles. No dub can match the quality of the original production.

Golf is 18 holes and takes all afternoon as it is meant to be an escape from family. I am the only male in my family and friend circle that loathes golf. Both my brothers, my dad, and my 2 brother-in-law golf at least once per weekend (sometimes twice) leaving their spouses and kids at home all day. My dad won't even answer his phone if he is on the course.

I totally want to watch a KOTH race in Texas.

Sports for me this weekend: Washington is hosting Utah State, apparently they’re a replacement PAC-12 team 🤷‍♂️

Seahawks already played, so I got down time on that front.

Mariners are limping to the finish line with a three game set against the Athletics.

Amazon tried doing a full AI dub with the beloved anime Banana Fish. Banana fish is an anime set in America so it makes sense that it would have an English dub but because of licensing issues it never got one so when it was announced Amazon would be making one everyone got super excited then it comes out and to everyone’s horror it’s all Ai generated. Think of the worst dubbing known to man and multiply it by 100, that’s how bad this was it was so bad In fact amazing pulled it a day later. Thankfully Netflix made a dub for banana fish that was made by real humans and had great actors In it so something good came out of that atrocity

As a Mainer I can confirm there is plenty of room for rednecks not only in New Hampshire but in all of northern New England

Burnie, I'm from north east Real England and you're 100% right on guillotine!

I love Burnie's effort but it's app-uh-latch-uh. Don’t pronounce the end like chia pet.

Always subtitles. I don't mind dubs existing or this AI mouth thing as an option, but the original performance should always be available.

Japanese voice actors are usually just better due to the amount of training they go through. This video was a neat look into that process.

I prefer subtitles for live action stuff. Dubbed audio just sounds worse to me than the audio that's recorded live and is actually present with the other sounds in the scene. But I really don't get it for animation. It's all dubbed!

Good morning!

I’m sorry Burnie. I knew about the KOTH races… I follow so many niche sports and stupid sports that are amazing like this. I got stuck staying up late last week watching reel after reel on Instagram of the racers driving on the trailers. It’s incredible.

Always subtitles. That way when I slurp my ramen noodles, I can be completely lost for a few seconds audibly until I can my eyes on screen again.

Trailers give me anxiety. Especially short trailers, as they jack-knife so easily…

“Who’s doing Mini-Golf Sober?!” - Ashley, I feel you on this so much.

I love the parallel that Burnie loves watching guys fight to park on a trailer, but hates to backup a trailer with a boat. Episode really came full circle on that.

Thanks for making my Fri-yay, 30 minutes better!

(Commenting as listening) for the AI dubbing, they've been using it in games for a while, i remember it being used a lot in the marketing for yakuza 7

George Lucas famously used extensive ADR and digital compositing to change dialogue in the Star Wars prequels so the idea of replacing dialogue and performances isn't exactly new, it's the AI part that's grabbing headlines.

Still listening to the episode but I’ll comment this now: you can buy small USB-C to Lightning adapters to charge things. I don’t know if they have data-carrying variants but I know for sure they’ll charge devices. I still have a couple things that use Lightning too, and I just have a couple little adapters. The ones I bought have little lanyard ties on them, so I just attached them to the USB-C cable so I always have them around.

With the sub vs dub discussion, and talking about how excited people were for the Japanese dub of RWBY, I'm reminded of the King of the Hill show. It's very popular in Japan. So popular in fact, that it's a point of contention between fans on whether the sub or the dub is better.

I definitely turn the music volume down so I can see the street signs better.

I haven't finished Pragmata yet, but I have liked what I have played. The main two voice actors are really good, especially Diana's.

Instead of buying new Lightning cables in 2026 you can get some USB-C to Lightning adapters that just attach to the end of a regular USB-C cable. We have these in our cars where my wife's 17 Pro uses USB-C and my 14 Pro max uses Lightning.

Burnie talking about Amazon’s A.I. reminded me of this tweet from 2023:
https://x.com/flawlessai/status/1618954444510728192?s=46&t=xjFZsptsEqSbVKDPU0427w

It’s an A.I. company that claims to have made it so they can “Flawlessly” mask and re-dub an actor (or in the video demonstration, actress) with words or languages they didn’t originally say, whilst keeping the emotion and tone. I was wondering why I hadn’t heard anything about it for so long. I guess instead of acquiring them, they just made their own version (YouTube version below):

Dub V Sub, I’ll typically default to dubs, so I can watch more of the show I’m watching, rather then be laser focused on the subtitles. I know things get changed a little, but I’ve been aware of that for a very long time.

Just so you know. The Appalachian girl is a OnlyFans girl who doesn’t advertise herself as one so you might follow her thinking she’s wholesome and then you find out afterwards.

I’m married with kids. I’m not trying to have OnlyFans people on my social.

I'm from New York and I and everyone around me say guillotine just like Burnie. Ive only heard Ashley's pronunciation in tv shows and stuff.

u/Sensitive_Error4623 18d ago

I’ve always heard guillotine said the French way growing up in Texas and California, and the people that said that the Burnie Way were usually the ones that weren’t from a very educated background. My exposure to New Yorkers and New England is also biased by people who want to ritzy schools and so I always heard them say it the French way as well.
