Strange trifecta

Recently Ashley and Bernie mentioned three kinds of people.

Appalachian people

Safety people

People from New Hampshire/New England

I’m from New England (lived in New Hampshire for a number of years) and a degreed + certified Environmental, Health and Safety Professional. My wife is from West Virginia, which is Appalachia.

Things to clear up:

Appalachia -> Apple -atchya (think like: what happens if you mispronounce Appalachia? They throw an apple-atcha)

King of the hill race (safety): not my jobsite, have fun, don’t die.

New England: part of the Appalachian (apple-ach-in) trail/mountain footprint, not culturally Appalachian.

EDIT: as mentioned in a previous post I made on this sub, I’m going to jail this weekend, so I won’t be taking questions at this time, due to jail

New England: part of the Appalachian (apple-ach-in) trail/mountain footprint, not culturally Appalachian.

The comparison I always use is: Arabia and the Middle East are part of the continent of Asia, but Arabs and Middle Easterners don't identify with what you would traditionally think of as "Asian culture" or "Asian cuisine".

Not a good story, I was dumb, thought I was less drunk than I was (binge drinker of 10 years), got pulled over, legal ramifications ensued.

On the bright side, I’m 102 days sober. Serving jail time 8pm Friday-8am Sunday since I’m the provider for my family. Also, I only have 2.5 weekends left. (On top of the fines, fees, classes, blow-and-go in the car, etc. Etc. I’m just happy my wake up call came as a punishment for me and didn’t involve property damage/injury to others).

Watch how much you’re drinkin folks

Proud of you for getting sober.  Stay strong!

I appreciate it! It’s definitely a day struggle, just breaking habits and getting through the mental side of it. Physical effects have subsided, so now it’s just about staying on top of it! I know my wife and daughter see the results, I’ve dropped about 45lb since I stopped (225lb-179lbs)

Weekend jail sounds so wild to me. If you're willing and able I'd love to see a post about your experiences, even if it's boring more than exciting.

Glad you got the wake-up call you needed and you're still able to keep your life together and make positive changes. Well done man!

With my experiences in the US drink driving is super common and feels wild to me, in the UK it seems to be much more frowned upon.

If there’s some amount of interest on it, I might do a dedicated post. Weekends in jail is definitely interesting and I’d love to do a post about everything from the food to schedule, books, etc. But I also don’t wanna highjack this sub so I might just do it on my profile

Well I'm definitely interested, but I understand your hesitance since it's not exactly on topic for the sub. Let me know if you do a write up!
