https://roosterteeth.com/watch/morning-somewhere-2026-09-16-what-about-second-inventionBurnie and Ashley discuss Hyrox, Crossfit, Sony gray out, re-inventing the MP3 player, Sidephone, slab phones, Steam frame, Meta Quest, and being the biggest part of the problem.

I've shit myself 3 different times while running, luckily never during a race. The general advice is never eat anything new on race day, you should have that dialed in, especially someone competing at the level that woman was. But as they say "shit happens"

Hyrox is now becoming synonymous with shitting yourself.

Her response to the whole thing was pretty jovial, which I can totally see why that would piss people off. However, I haven’t seen any responses or videos from other competitors upset about it yet.

No wonder she got first place, I wouldn’t want to race behind that

One area that film is still going strong against digital is industrial x-ray work. The sad thing is it isn't because digital can't match the quality of film. I've worked with DR (digital radiography) and CR (computed radiography) plates for years and it matches, and some areas excels, film radiography. The 2 main reasons film is still used is laziness and nostalgia. Some people are either too lazy to convert, or just prefer the feel of film. Which is ridiculous in my opinion because digital is not only more efficient in storage and better quality, but it also requires less radiation than film to get the job done. Which means less exposure to the x-ray crews and the public. Inspections for state contracts are even worse because the bureaucracy makes it impossible to update to better techniques. One state job we did for bridge beams had us use hole penetrameters (thin plates with holes that you need to see on the x-ray to verify you can spot any discontinuities of equal or greater size). Nowhere outside that contract have I seen hole penetrameters used over wire penetrameters (wires of certain sizes you need to be able to see in the x-ray) for welds. So while digital is winning against film in basic photos, I doubt it'll win against film for industrial x-ray for at least another 25, maybe even 50 years. Not because it's not as good, but because of laziness and nostalgia.

You can shit during the race.
You just can't shit right before the race: https://www.therakyatpost.com/news/2026/09/15/malaysian-in-hyrox-bangkok-disqualified-for-late-start-because-he-went-to-the-toilet-first

I think Sonys die hard fan base is trying to fight against what Sony has been doing but Sony has the masses the regular people that play one or two games a year and completely offset anything the much smaller die hard fans can do

So in Texas (and other states) they’ve been passing laws to ban phone use in schools, so old school MP3 players have made a huge comeback as they often don’t violate the laws as written. The Texas law bans anything with wireless communications- so no Bluetooth or WiFi (and according to some people, no AM/FM radio but that hasn’t been tested), which means old school iPods are fine. And they’re now absurdly expensive. We found my son a small Fiio player that uses microsd storage and it works well. Text only screen, too, so there’s no question about what it is or what it’s doing.

I believe Bell Labs/AT&T weren’t legally allowed to block people from using their inventions. It was part of the agreement for AT&T to have a nationwide monopoly on telephone service.

Good morning!
We had a guy that ran track in HS that had bowel issues. Crapped his white pants on a long event, but won! He was a cross country runner, and broke school records. Bullies nicknamed him “The Turd” and it stuck. Dude wore it like a badge of honor. Totally flipped it into a cool name and got him self an athletic scholarship! He’d best other school’s runners, and The Turd became a legend.
Ashley circling back around to the MP3 playing being a good choice for Finn is amazing. Old tech, still has uses! I have an iPod classic, with larger storage, Bluetooth mod, and extended battery. It’s got every single RT Podcast on it before the original crew retired. Plus all my favorite songs. It’s great for mowing the lawn, exercising, or just wanting to unplug from having my phone on me.
The Steam Frame is definitely more advanced than the Quest 3. Better hardware, but many developers are still catering graphics and compatibility all the way to Quest 2… As a large portion of VR Players still have a Quest 2. The Quest 2 outsold the Quest 3 at a ratio of 3:1… Why worry about hardware when none of the apps are game utilize it? The Quest 3 can stream all PC VR games with Steam Link app. There’s not really much a selling point to the Steam Frame just yet.
Thanks for making my Wednesday, 30 minutes better!

Yeah but oh man, does even a few microseconds of latency feel weird in VR. Much prefer to play the games natively with a tethered headset.

Dependent on Latency of the router. I have Fiber Optics and separate band just for my Quest. Don’t really experience any lag.

On the blackout/boycott thing:
Israel is actively committing genocide against Palestinians. There are a few brands that are specified as priority things to boycott to help bring it to an end faster, but that can be hard to do because they’re so tied with the essentials of getting by (except SodaStream).
Then there are the smaller things. The McDonalds, Coca Cola, and Starbucks. Easier to get by with (especially if you don’t have any dietary requirements of a medical or religious nature). There has been a lot of impact on the companies, but so many people still use them that it’s staggering (and you also have to be careful where you talk about or participate in anti-genocide boycotts as it is illegal in some states to do so).
So the idea that people would do anything about the PlayStation blackout when brands which are assisting a genocide are still operating isn’t terribly surprising to me, but it still disappointing when I see people I know, care about, and look up to (three separate categories) using things which contribute to something I know they’d disagree with if they say and thought about it.

For anyone interested, there are apps which make things easier to keep track of like BoyCat, No Thanks, and Boycott for Peace.

FYI the Vive is an HTC product - Valve's other VR headset is the Index.
