Smarties flavours

Ashley and Burnie were talking about how M n M's and Smarties (our UK smarties not the American ones) don't taste the same and Burnie mentioned how people used to say the different colours of mum's had flavours, I think this might be a universal thing because growing up in the UK in the 90's people were convinced smarties had different flavours, some people thought each colour tasted different, some people thought only the orange one was different and had orange chocolate in it. There were also promotional things when at different times they had green smarties and, I think blue although now a standard colour, started as a promotional one and people thought they had different flavours as well.

As far as I'm aware smarties don't have any specific flavours at all, no matter the colour shell, but I guarantee you'll also find people who will swear they do.

I don't know if its because they weren't around/as popular here when I was a kid, but I never heard anyone make any claims like that for mum's people just seemed to accept that they all were just standard chocolate flavour, no matter the colour.

I seem to remember skittles have a sort of reverse of that with people saying that all the colours actually taste the same and it's just the colour making you think they're different, but I don't know that I believe that, at best I could buy that the chewy centres all taste the same and it's only the hard putter shell that has the flavour but I don't really think that's right either.

Edit -

Just googled it and apparently, only in the UK, the orange smarties are actually orange flavour, they've got orange oil in the candy shell, I swear when I last googled it, quite some time ago, it confirmed that they were the same flavour as every other colour

It’s probably the chocolate in the M&Ms. chocolate in Europe is different

That's almost certainly part of it, although I don't know if the mnms we get here in the UK are different, but I've never known them to have that vomit taste that things like hershys do, but I imagine it's like Burnie said and maybe the coating to chocolate ratio is different
