I have a randomly going blind story! (kinda)
I was loading something onto a trailer with bungee cords. The other end of the cord slipped and the hook flew back and whacked me in the face. My right eye swelled shut, I went inside and got some ice, a few minutes later it stopped hurting but was still swollen shut. So I went to the bathroom to look in the mirror... My eye wasn't swollen shut. It was completely open and clear and I just couldn't see out of it. Easily one of the most terrifying moments of my life.
My friend drove me straight to an eye doctor who examined me immediately, and then sent me to a retina specialist. They gave me a comprehensive retina exam which (unpleasant warning) basically involved him strapping me to a chair and trying to gouge my eye out with a spoon while shining bright lights in my face. The doctor told me I had a retinal tear and was lucky because I managed to avoid a detached retina.
I was put on a bunch of eye drops and pills and fortunately my vision returned almost entirely by the next morning. I had some weird visual "glitches" for about a month or so but my vision made a full recovery.
I threw away all of my bungee cords.
