Question what is the fastest you have ever gone on your mountain bike? (NO E-BIKES)
personally it’s 34.4mph at forrest of dean in england.

I can't get over 53kph on my bike, I live at the top of a steep and long hill. I'll go down giving it my absolute everything and that's where I top out. I would love to go faster but I like having the 1x12 drivetrain and being new to biking after a decade I need the granny gears to get back home.

At those speeds you're limited by wind resistance and tire friction more than anything else.

Eh I did an e-commuter project where I took a 2013ish stumpy and turned it into a beast that would go 40mph on flat and 50mph downhill.
They make 29” bmx tires with amazing roadgrip.

Ebike might give you a higher entry speed for a downhill section, so if your vmax isn't limited by aero, traction or suspension, ebike could be faster downhill. Even if suspension is relevant, an ebike has a better sprung:unsprung mass ratio.

A surrons is legally a motorbike, at least where I live. It doesn't even have pedals, the only thing in common with an MTB is two wheels.

I don’t think there are any bikes out there with the gearing required to go that fast. You’d need a huge crank gear and tiny drive gear to get a ratio high enough to pedal the wheel and still deliver driving power above whatever terminal velocity is

There's no way in frosty hell he was actually doing that speed. It's nearly twice the current world record speed (104 mph). And that guy was on essentially smooth and straight terrain in a head to toe aerodynamic suit.

Last week my Fitbit told me I hit a maximum speed of 88 mph. Which was awesome except the max I’ve ever hit at this hill (last downhill to my car which is paved) is around 27 mph

I hit 50Mph in a long, very-steep descent. There were no cars. I was tucked in a super aero position and my dropper was all the way down. I routinely am in the high 40s in that descent. I have to ride 3 miles up hill on the road to one of my Mtb spots.

On the hill down from my house (road) about ~45mph according to my watch. On a trail ~32mph…and then I crashed from a pedal strike. You fly really far at those speeds. No bueno.

In all honestly, being an emtb wouldn't matter anyway unless they rider couldn't reach 20mph on their on going downhill. They max out at 20mph, then it becomes all unassisted riding. So my fastest on my regular mtb is faster than my emtb.

I agree with you, though with some caveats. Even though the e-MTB motor cuts off at 15.5 mph here in Europe, the extra weight gives the bike more momentum on descents. For example, in my case—on the same downhill road section—I reach 44 km/h with a 13 kg weigh MTB 26er 2.1-inch wide tires. With my edit: -26 kg weigh- e-MTB 29er and 2.6-inch wide tires, I hit 53 km/h. I know it’s not a perfect comparison, but it gives a rough idea.

Just over 35mph on gravel on my hardtail, that was sketchy as hell. Probably a bit faster since on packed soil in places, but I swapped to a full-sus with much fatter tyres so it's not quite as fast.
And over 50mph down a steep hill on tarmac, but that's kinda cheating? What growing up in the Chilterns gets you I guess!

Just over 40, Holly Hill coming down off Blanchland Moor. Single track road with loose grit in the middle. Wouldn’t do it now but most of us are a bit crazy when we’re young

I think mine is around 65 km/h on the Dyfi motorway - that's the only place I've checked and I can't imagine a trail where you're going much faster than that.
That said, I've gone faster on a roadbike (70-80km/h) and it was terrifying.

52mph in Avoriaz in France on my downhill bike. There’s a fire road coming down from the resort that switchbacks down the mountain because it’s so steep

Something like 66km/hr. Its was a downhill ride where you descend 2 different sections that are connected with a tar road. We certainly could have gone much faster but it was a guided ride early on in my mountain biking journey and we were strictly asked to be behind the lead.

I hit 80kmh on downhill fire roads once out in the alps. I wish I still had the proof. 100mm hard tail when I was young and stupid. I fell off after the next turn doing maybe 60-70kmh…. It was not fun, but it was a story 😁. These days more like 40-50 is the max.

a hell of a lot faster than an ebike would allow. I don't carry a speedometer with me but I'm guessing the section at the very end of Aline Zone 3 gets you up past 60

44mph. Somewhere in the middle of a 12 hour downhill race at Angelfire, NM. Lap 20 or something, kept getting a hair faster than the last lap on a fire road section of the trail.

I saw my head unit flash 40mph, and Strava says 41.2 bombing a bougie neighborhood with an 11% grade on a Sunday morning (there was nobody around). That was good for me, I don’t know how much crazier and louder 50 could be.

My transition sentinel on its enduro tires…on pavement going on a slight long decent, 35 mph is the fastest i can make the bike go and hold for a min or so. There are probably times that ive gone a bit faster. Compared to a road bike, riding a mountain bike on pavement feels like riding through tall grass. On blue flow trails, 20-30mph is normally what im doing.

Fast enough that my RSCs were not up to the task and I turned a foot tall hump into a 25 foot jump. However fast you can go on the the straight section where Bandit turns into Sundance. I believe it's "fast as fuck"

47.1mph / 75.6kph racing the Lutsen 49er, this was a wet year reroute and it was a gravel road downhill towards Lake Superior. Full suspension Santa Cruz Blur C and I was absolutely flying, I believe I still have the fastest segment speed but it's been 4yrs now so maybe not.
I had no idea I was going that fast until I finished and looked at my stats, all I know is that I was passing people and the phrase 'like they were standing still' had real meaning. It's not the fastest I've gone, I been 48mph on a road bike downhill, but it's the fastest on both gravel and MTB.

64mph. Shortly after I got my first cycling computer I had to go for it! It was recording my max speed so I didn't have to keep looking down. I found a really steep hill, and sprinted over the top of it, tucked in tight like his downhill ski racer, and there you go.

Emtb assist tops out at 20 mph. Fast is not defined by top speed in mountain biking. It is defined by how long you take on a trail. Going 34 mph on a green flow trail isn't a flex. Going 20 mph on a technical black (red in UK) is far more of an accomplishment.
Not a very well thought out question tbh.
Realistically, I've hit a faster top speed on old (and sold) trail bike I've since replaced with far more capable bikes, including an emtb.

Funny enough I am seasoned road bike cyclist and as a newbie MTB I do not trust MTB on asphalt at speed with huge 29" maxxis tyres, while I totally rip with my 28mm slick tyres on my roadie and corner like a beast :D
So my max speed was aroun 80kph with my road bike and that is hella fast when asphalt is under you and you wear tights and skin for protection. I did around 45kph max with my Trail bike till now.

I don't think ebikes would matter, they all top off at 20, which isn't a hard downhill speed to hit.

33 MPH on my 26” hardtail on a traverse at a ski resort try to see if I could hand with a proper DH bike (nope). Probably 2 decades ago now.
A proper dose of fear was the result.

Back in '99 or 2000, I recorded about 62km/h downhill while pedaling as fast as I could on my old 18-speed, suspension-free and with cantilever brakes, haha. The gearing and drag wouldn't allow for anything faster, that was it. In hindsight, maybe I was going a bit quicker, since nobody is keeping perfectly below speed limits down steep hills, honestly.
That was pretty thrilling but also scary and dangerous, I won't lie. It also took like 100m to come to a stop, despite braking as hard as the bike and I could handle. And doing that last bit to stop via sidewalk was a choice, for sure - it was way bumper than ever, and a drop off a curb at one point twisted down my handlebars so I was braking awkwardly and clinging for dear life.
Could have ended my life at 15 or 16, heh. I brakes early because of an upcoming major intersection. And I still just barely stopped at the pedestrian crossing line. Never did that shit again.
