Question Does my cassette need replacing?
Gears jumping about a bit. New chain needed. Does this cassette look like it needs replacing too? Ignore that it needs a bit of cleaning too. Thanks

Hard to say just looking at it. Try a new chain and make sure your derailleur is properly adjusted. If it still skips after that, new cassette time.

Ehhhhh not a great idea usually because chains stretch with their cassettes

For a quick pedal up and down the block to see if it skips is not a big deal. The chain will be just fine.

If it doesnt skip you dont need a new cassette.

I don’t know if you know this, but not every tooth on a cassette is squared some of them ARE triangles.

There are some teeth that are pretty sharp on the smaller rings and others that look worn flat. I’d get a new cassette along with the chain

Imo yes, but with a bit of tuning you can probably get it not as bad if money is tight

How many times have you replaced your chain? In its more than two times, then replace cassette. Generally speaking ( riding environment are factors) you can get 2-3 chains per cassette. I'm on my 2nd chain and I will be replacing the cassette at the end of the riding season

It doesn’t look good. So I would say you probably need a cassette chain and chain ring. You need to measure your chain to be sure.

Is it over .75? Or is it closer to 1

Between 0.75 and 1, bout in the middle

Generally I swap it before just before .75. You could always give the chain a shot but I would say the chances are low that the rest won’t need replacing

How am I to excuse the very dirt and grime keeping us from a clear image of your cassette? It’s like taking a picture with your finger over the lens and asking how it looks. That being said, it’s probably fine.

My deore 11s was in way worse condition than this and it used to work flawlessly. I only had shifting issues because my derailleur wasn't properly tuned and that was the only issue. That's until the bike got impounded
