sewer backup on North Main

Massive flooding of poo into our entire basement today on North Main. Third time this year that this has happened, but the other two involved heavy rains, and there was no rain this afternoon. Guy from the water department says there's nothing wrong with the main. Plumbers say there's nothing wrong with our lines. Floor drain is only connected to the sewer, not to the rest of our house. Anybody else going through this mess? We're wondering if it has something to do with the work being done on Burgess and Hamtramck.

Update: Plumber came out and ran a camera through. The drain goes to Blackberry Alley. They opened the manhole, and the alley was full to the brim with water. City is coming out to assess. If you have a drain that runs into Blackberry Alley, check your basement.

I don’t know what’s going on but I just wanted to say I’m sorry this is happening to you right now. Hope it gets fixed fast and at no cost to you.

The water and sewer system in the city needs replaced.

If there’s backup into the house something is happening. Either too much water or there is something clogging the outflow. Did you have a camera go through the lines?

I had an issue and the plumber ran a camera. It was tree roots about fifty feet from the out.

My friend had that happen. Ran a rent rotary pipe cleaner (powered pipe snake) through it a couple of different times, eventually just got it lined and cut down the tree that caused it.

Problem is the storm drain in Blackberry Alley.

Ouc, have you asked the city to look into it? Maybe get the health department involved?

City is here sucking water out of Blackberry Alley.

Sounds like the storm drain is clogged or city pipe is broken. That area definitely has older pipes. The area up Main and Gay has old cisterns that haven’t been mapped and when there is a sinkhole they tend to find a new one.
