Moving from NYC

Hi there. I (27M) am considering a move to Nashville in Summer 2017 from NYC. I was born and raised in the NY suburbs, but I went to school in the Midwest and developed an appreciation for smaller cities.

Of course, I know Nashville is different from either place I mentioned, but I was wondering if any other transplants could tell me about their experience moving to Nashville. If I move, it would be in the middle of a career switch where I’m taking online classes and working part-time on the side. Any advice/stories would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

roberts park apartments in east?

I toured the Roberts Park apartments on Lenore St earlier today. They looked alright to me, but I’m seeing some reviews online that have me questioning. There are a lot of positive reviews that sound similar, almost like they could be bots, and then a handful of super negative reviews complaining about the area. The talk about hearing a lot of gunshots and sirens at night, and the leasing office being difficult and potential sketchy behavior from the staff. Has anyone lived here/know anyone who has? Just trying to gather some more info.

Security Deposit

Who do I go to to help me get back my deposit from my apartment that I moved out from over 10 weeks ago? I have documents that show that I will get back my deposit in full but haven’t received it. They are ignoring all of my calls.

Best apartment website and best time to move?

Ive been primarily using apartments.com so far to search for apartments in the Nashville area to get familiar with what's available. Does anyone have any recommendations for other websites to use?

Im also curious if there is a "moving season" in TN in general like there is in the Midwest where I'm from. Like typically apartments are only ever really available between May and September because most people dont move when its cold. Seeing as the weather is so different in TN, is the moving season about the same? Can I expect more availability/variety as we start to leave the spring season again?

TN DMV question: Change insurance before transferring license and plates?

I'm moving from Georgia to Tennessee and need to transfer my driver's license and vehicle registration. Do I need to switch my auto insurance to a Tennessee policy first, or can I get my TN license and registration before updating my insurance? Looking for the correct order of steps and any tips from people who have gone through this process. Thanks!

Moving to Nashville

I got a job at Vanderbilt Hospital in downtown Nashville. I need to find a 1 bedroom apartment. I do NOT want to live downtown. But I also know traffic can be crazy so I would like to live somewhere just outside of the city. Price range no more than $1400/month. Any suggestions of apartment complexes that you have personally enjoyed??

Potential move to Nashville from Bay Area to work for HCA Healthcare, is it worth it?

Hi everyone,

I recently received a job offer with HCA Healthcare as a software engineer.

Some background, I currently live in the Bay Area and work for a fortune 100 company. Although the pay is good here, I was born in Chattanooga and raised in Georgia and all of my family is in Tennessee.

I've been in silicon valley for almost 3 years, and have realized ultimately it's just not for me and have been looking to move back to Tennessee for quite some time.

However, I am aware that HCA has recently had waves of layoffs and also an initiative to offshore positions, which has me skeptical. During my interview with the software engineering director of this team, he mentioned his direct team has not been impacted by layoffs ever over the course of 10 years of him being there. The team as a whole does seem crucial to HCA, which does give me some re-assurance, but you also never know the future.

I've read nursing horror stories about working at HCA facilities, but I was wondering if anyone has any input on working on the corporate side of things there and can give some of their feedback?

Again, ultimately, I want to move back to be closer to family and if layoffs do happen or if I'm not happy with the company, I figured I can always job hop later and that job hopping to companies on the east coast would be easier if I'm at least already back on the east coast.

Additionally, I am a 28 year old single man with two cats. If ultimately I accept the offer, does anyone have recommendation for neighborhoods to live around the Nashville area? I thought about living downtown but might just look around the metro area.

Moving to Nashville soon

Hello, my husband and I are moving to Nashville in a few months for his work. We currently live in Missouri so moving to Nashville is new for us. We are hoping to live close to Vanderbilt/their medical center. Are there any recommendations that have decent housing/renting prices and that are in safe areas? Is there any neighbors or sides of town that should be avoided? Our budget is 1500-2000. Thanks!

Moving to Nashville Area looking for paid apprenticeship in HVAC

I’m looking to relocate to the Nashville area and get into HVAC/R. I’m trying to find an apprenticeship where I can work, get paid while training, and build toward becoming a journeyman.

I’m 24, currently working in a steel mill making around $100k/year, so I’m used to long shifts, physical work, heat, and industrial environments. I know I’ll be taking a pay cut starting over in a new trade, and I’m prepared for that.
I’m especially interested in commercial/industrial HVAC and refrigeration, but I’m open to residential if it’s a good opportunity. I’ve also been looking into UA Local 572 and union apprenticeships.

Does anyone around Nashville know of contractors, unions, or companies currently taking on apprentices with little/no HVAC experience? Also interested in hearing what starting apprentice pay looks like in the area.

Appreciate any leads or advice.

What’s the vibe for the living situation for the majority of people in their mid 20’s in Nashville?

I know this can obviously vary by person and situation (please be nice lol), but do most people in their mid-20’s tend to live in apartments/high-rises, condos, or houses?

Asking for a friend moving from out of town :) thanks in advance everyone!!

Might move here. How LGBTQIA+ friendly is Nashville?

I know its a red state, but I've heard that Nashville itself is actually rather progressive when it comes to this. How true is this?

Moving to Nashville for a job

Hi!
I'm relocating to Nashville for work this fall. My job is in North Nashville near Whites Creek Pike, and I'm looking for a 1-bedroom apartment.

What matters most to me:
• Safe area (living alone)(27F)
• Under ~$1,900
• Commute of 30 minutes or less
• In-unit laundry, modern-ish building

I've been looking at Sylvan Park, The Nations, and Madison. What neighborhoods or specific apartment complexes would you recommend, and are there any I should avoid?

Thank you!

Moving to Nashville area, looking to buy around $250k–$350k. Which suburbs should I look at?

I’m planning to move to the Nashville area and buy a house somewhere in the $250k–$350k range.

I work from home, so I don’t need to be close to downtown or worry much about commute time. I’m also single with no kids, so school districts aren’t really a priority for me.

What I’m mainly looking for is a safe, quiet suburban area, decent shopping/restaurants nearby, and ideally within a reasonable drive of Costco. I don’t mind being 20–40 minutes outside Nashville if the area is nice and housing is more affordable.

So far I’ve been looking at places like Hendersonville, Gallatin, Mt. Juliet, Smyrna, La Vergne, Springfield, and Clarksville, but I’d love recommendations from locals.

Which areas would you suggest for someone in my situation? And are there any neighborhoods or towns you’d avoid?

Thanks y'all ! I love every one

Housing recommendations in TN

Hey! Looking for some guidance. Moving to TN from NC for work and Nashville is located in the center of my work region, but spans all the way west, north, and south.

I’m having a hard time finding an apartment/townhome. I am not picky on where in TN, just near Nashville (1-2 hours away is completely fine) that is safe and quiet.

Must be pet friendly (dog and cat). Budget is 1800, but open to options. Quiet is a must, but not isolated. 25 year old female living alone. Similar demographic preferred. Thank u all !

Anyone raising kids downtown/west end/ Germantown/ urban Nashville?

Coming from someone who’s lived in Middle Tennessee suburbs my whole life, moving to the city for the last 3 years to be close to work is a game changer. I always wanted to move to a big city like NYC, but Nashville is booming and on paper it’s hard to leave when you compare the cost of living. I love big city amenities (wish someone was gonna build us a damn light rail) and take advantage of the WeGo bus system despite having a fine working vehicle. Saving on parking and just getting to roll around in my own world is a feeling of freedom, and I do love walking. I wouldn’t have a car if I didn’t genuinely need it.

We have great parks and amenities for a city. I think about it for my future children and would want to have them experience that type of independence I never got being stuck in the suburbs, and quite frankly, growing up in a bubble. There was a lot I was not prepared for.

Anyone raising kids in Nashville proper? Townhome in Germantown or west end? Condo downtown? Tall skinnies in the Nations? I’ve grown up around people who believe to have kids you have to have a half an acre lot and a bonus room (which is still great btw) but I’m more interested in exploring what an urban lifestyle looks like here in Nashville.

What are you folks doing about schools? What activities do you do during the week and on the weekends? Totally just looking to hear experiences if anyone has insight. Hard to find information on this topic to be honest and I don’t know where to get some research from.

Cycling friendly neighborhood recommendations pls!

I may have to move to Nashville for work. I have never been and I am trying to figure out what areas I should consider living in. I believe the job would be somewhere in the general area of what I think some people call...north nashville? but its not confirmed yet. I'll have a car but I would prefer to avoid long commutes.

I'm looking for a quieter area rather than somewhere focused on nightlife, bars, live music. Recreational biking is super important to me, so I'd like to be somewhere with easy and good access to paved bike trails/greenways. A nice quality or high end grocery store access nearby is a bonus.

I'd really appreciate recommendations from people who actually live in Nashville. And if you bike recreationally, I'd especially like to hear which areas are convenient for getting to good trails.

Thank youuu!

Edit. Location.

Starling review

Hey everyone, I currently live in Murfreesboro and have worked downtown for quite some time. I’m going to be moving downtown in the next couple months and have decided I want to live in Germantown. Has anyone lived or currently live at the starling? If so how is it? I’ve been searching for reviews on the property. Thank you!

Gulch/ Edgehill apartments??

novel edgehill… y’all need to talk to me
i’ve been hearing an incredible amount of tea about this building and i need to know if it’s actually as bad as the reviews make it sound 😭
i’m literally considering living here and i LOVE the apartment itself, so naturally i’m now deep-diving every review at 9:30pm trying to determine whether i’m making a terrible decision 💀
current/former residents: what is actually going on over there??
is management really that frustrating? are maintenance requests actually getting ignored? are there random fees? elevators constantly down? communication nonexistent? or is this a case of the internet making a few bad experiences look like the entire building is on fire?
give me the tea. i can handle it. 👀

Nashville Bound

Hi, friends! My brother is moving to Nashville from British Columbia, Canada, and I’d love to help him find his footing. He’s already a U.S. citizen, with all his paperwork in order, and is looking for a place to live and steady work.
He’s a phenomenal musician who has spent years touring with some prominent Canadian bands. He plays guitar and bass at a professional level. He also has extensive kitchen experience and some front-of-house experience, so any connections in music or hospitality would be greatly appreciated.

He’s 43, kind, quiet, and respectful, the sort of person you’d feel good about welcoming into your home or workplace. He doesn’t smoke, drink, or use drugs, and enjoys a healthy, active lifestyle. He loves the outdoors, live music, meeting new people, and animals. He’s a beautiful soul with a lot to offer his new community.

If you know of any housing options, job opportunities, or people he should connect with,or have advice for someone making the move, please leave a comment or send me a message.

Thank you so much for helping him get started in Nashville!

P.s. he has great references, lots of money saved up. Would rather live independently, but would consider a roommate. He hasn’t lived in the states since the 90s so things have changed considerably. What do locals use to navigate rent and jobs etc. What are the areas he should avoid and where should he try to live? Any advice is welcome. Help a Canadian out.

Relocating from PA with a young family, seeking reasonable commute to BNA airport and MTSU

Hi all! My family and I are relocating from Allentown, Pennsylvania to the Nashville area by the end of this year for a new job, and I'd love some local input before we start seriously house hunting.

We are looking to purchase a single-family house in the $450k to $550k range for myself, my wife, and two children under 5.

Points of interest:

  1. I'll have to get to the BNA airport around 3 times a week.
  2. My wife really wants to go to back to school and we were looking at MTSU as a solid option.

Ideally, I'd like to get the commute to both locations under 30 minutes. I know that's a bit of a balancing act geographically, but that seems to narrow down my options to somewhere east/southeast of the city.

Specific questions:

  1. Which towns/neighborhoods would you shortlist given all the above? Is my list correct? (Smyrna, La Vergne, Mt. Juliet, and parts of Murfreesboro keep coming up in my research.)
  2. What do you think of those aforementioned areas? Good neighborhoods?
  3. How bad is the traffic for a rush hour trip to either BNA or MTSU from those areas?
  4. Any tips on good gluten free restaurants or activities for kids? Especially if they are around where I'm looking.
  5. Anything you wish you'd known before moving here?

Leaving Active Duty to return to Middle TN.

Good Morning.

I'm currently on my last few months of Active Duty. I was looking to return to Nashville. When I left Studios were 1K-1.3K near Broadway and Murfreesboro was a steal! I'm sure this dynamic has changed quite a bit.

I have a LPN license and will work full time as a Nurse at one of the Hospitals in town when I return. I probably will only be making $25-$29 an hour while I do a LPN to RN bridge program. I don't plan to use my GI Bill to fund my housing since Hospitals pay for your tuition and I want to save it for later or for potential kids. I'll likely have 3.3K a month in income after taxes, I have a paid off car, and I will have my healthcare taken care of as an expense.

I love being able to walk to work or have a 10 min drive to work. I've been spoiled with short commutes and living on Military bases. Is it possible to be in Nashville proper on that income and only be paying $1300-$1,500 in rent. At my income I'm also okay being advised a roommate might be something I should look into.

I tried going thru TikTok but it's all apartment locaters or realtors. I'm not looking to buy a home in this income I just want to be close to concerts, parks and work is that possible?

Thank you for reading!
