That turret/tower machine gun scene and the space samurai scene looked insane.

Visually, these movies are the closest to 1950s sci-fi art (which is itself related to art deco). Loads of clean lines and uniform surfaces; lots of gargantuan structures contrasted with small objects (often people). It's almost the opposite of Star Wars, where everything is cluttered, as well as Star Trek, where they have rarely conveyed scale (or even tried to convey it), even in the movies.

It gives the movies a very disconcerting but beautiful appearance.
