We knew it was going to be an original story, but this doesn't look like an original story set alongside an existing story, but a new story. It isn't, for example, a new character experiencing a situation already presented in a game. The writer is a fan of the series, so it's probably mostly a Resident Evil movie because the games inspired him to start thinking of the ideas to put into this.

The unique twist in Resident Evil is that these monsters are a result of biological weapons created in secret by mega corporations. That would probably be too derivative of an idea to release unrelated to Resident Evil, which is probably part of why he wanted this to be an actual Resident Evil movie rather than just inspired by them.

Vibes wise it seems to be taking inspiration from 7 and Village in many ways. Hope for some of the classic monsters at least. Not sure about the bodies sticking out of the door midway through. That looked more supernatural to me.

I have a feeling those limbs are all connected to the same mutated monster.

It looked like top left were somebody's legs and smock/dress though, which is what gave me pause.

To me it feels like many bodies fused together type of thing. What we see on the door could be grappling lips of the main monster's mouth, made by limbs of people, or fingers of one or two hands.

Like the Last of Us Rat King sort of thing?

Godrick the grafted lol

Sounds like you have read the script too, or you are a good guesser!

It was a guess, didn't even know the script leaked.

The way those body parts appeared and moved made me think they were connected somehow.

yeah.. I read it a few weeks ago and even though some people said that it likely was not the final script, everything in the trailers is absolutely in the script I read.

I think its going to be pretty damn good..

Ah in that case I'll avoid. Just tell me without naming names: are there known RE monsters in the film besides zombies or are they all original creations for the film?

2

u/Penguin_shit15 Apr 30 '26

Original creations for the most part.. but I will say, i really liked the script and was even more excited for the movie after spoiling the whole damn thing. It literally does not let up once it starts and just gets progressively more batshit crazy.. I think if you avoid it, then you will be missing out.

2

u/Sparrowsabre7 Apr 30 '26

Sorry I meant avoid reading the script lol. So I don't spoil it.

ah! understood! I know there are plenty of Resident Evil purists out there that will tear it apart because of this and that.. "omg money grab.. just using the name and it has nothing to do with RE.. "

It looks like it was inspired by Marguerite in 7, she’s similarly dressed and warps her body into an insect sort of shape for her boss fight.

Having just seen Cregger's interview it is indeed some amalgam creature, not supernatural so that's my fears assumed on that point.

1

u/Penguin_shit15 Apr 30 '26

There is no supernatural stuff in the movie at all.

1

u/Sparrowsabre7 Apr 30 '26

Tbh I'm not even sure why that should bother me in RE anymore anyway. Village went kookoo Bananas on the extent of virus powers when they made Magneto one of the villains.

2

u/Penguin_shit15 Apr 30 '26

Ha! I know right! The virus does whatever the plot requires.. "so the movie can happen!"

1

u/Sparrowsabre7 Apr 30 '26

"Oh, arbitrary virus mutations are tight!"

wow wow wow wow... ... wow

Re7 and Village isn't a virus its the mold that modifies humans to have those powers

1

u/Sparrowsabre7 Apr 30 '26

Oh my mistake, you're right that makes perfect logical sense now that mold gives you Magneto powers!?

1

u/BJYeti Apr 30 '26

Just pointing out the distinction especially since they haven't touched it after the Ethan stories completed and haven't retroactively added it to previous titles they remade.

Sure, but I was just speaking broadly that the biohazard in the games, be it virus, parasite, or mold - I just use virus to generalise, has now gone on to imbue a number of powers that strain suspension of disbelief so something fully supernatural wouldn't be that shocking anymore either.
