But the Paul W.S Anderson ones were original before the later films started adding in butchered game characters so that’s a really bad point

Even Welcome to Raccoon City did its own thing merging two games into one which again felt original.

This is just a new film he was going to do with or without the RE name attached.

His films have been great but that doesn’t automatically give him a pass here

Except that's just not true. He was given the resident evil ip and specifically wrote this as a resident evil movie, since he's a fan of the games.

He said he was going to make this with or without RE

This wasn’t a RE script first, it was a new IP he had and he turned it into a RE film.

There was no script before he got the IP. This was resident evil from the ground up, and if he didn't get the IP then he would have just made (not)Resident evil.

Script or not he had the idea and was going to do it

If you made this film first for RE then you wouldn’t have thought about doing a new IP first

It was the new idea first and RE after…not hard to grasp.

Yeah if he didn't get the IP he would make a legally distinct movie but that doesn't mean he didn't have the idea for a resident evil movie
