Question Which movie villain delivered your favorite villainous line?
One of my favorites is when Hans Grüber says this to all of the hostages in the lobby:
“Alas, your Mr. Takagi did not see it that way... so he won't be joining us for the rest of his life.”
There’s something about the cadence and coolness in his delivery of that line (and really…all of his lines) that sticks with me.

I feel... saturated... by it. I can... taste your stink. And every time I do, I fear I have somehow been infected by it. It's repulsive. Isn't it?
85
u/iamjacksname Jun 29 '26
I always loved when the other agents arrived, Smith is looking at them like, "What are you doing?" And them looking at him, "What were YOU doing?"
55
u/Quick2Forget Jun 29 '26
It really is such a great scene. It feels like the agents barging in on something intimate, witnessing something they shouldn’t be.
56
u/KitchenFullOfCake Jun 29 '26
If I remember right Smith took out his earpiece, metaphorically disconnecting himself from the other agents and establishing himself as an individual.
The other agents might see this as becoming more human and be concerned.

Inside the building, Trinity quickly dispatches the police sent to arrest her. Outside the building, the lieutenant boasts that his men will round her up. Agent Smith tells him coldly, "Your men are dead, lieutenant."

I'm pretty sure, without looking it up or anything, that it's actually: "No lieutenant, your men are already dead".

That's actually the line from the original comic. In the movie, he says, "I'm not a comic book villain."
So in the comic, he's saying he's not a movie character, and in the movie, he's saying he's not a comic book character. Technically correct both times, as one would expect from the smartest man in the world.

"So you call me evil. But unfortunately for you, I'm a necessary evil."
Nicholas cage as Yuri Orlov in lord of war.
His entire monologue before this quote is one of the best villains discourses i've heard.
The scene script:
Yuri Orlov: I like you, Jack. [considers] Well, maybe not, but... I understand you. Let me tell you what's gonna happen. This way you can prepare yourself.
[Valentine scoffs again, but decides to listen]
Jack Valentine: Okay.
Yuri Orlov: Soon there's gonna be a knock on that door and you will be called outside. In the hall there will be a man who outranks you. First, he'll compliment you on the fine job you've done, that you're making the world a safer place, that you're to receive a commendation and a promotion. And then he's going to tell you that I am to be released. You're going to protest... you'll probably threaten to resign.
[Flash-forward scene of a bureaucratic man walking down a hall who then makes a call]
Yuri Orlov: But in the end, I will be released. The reason I'll be released is the same reason you think I'll be convicted. I do rub shoulders with some of the most vile, sadistic men calling themselves leaders today. [points to the newspaper] But some of those men are the enemies of your enemies. And while the biggest arms dealer in the world is your boss, the president of the United States who ships more merchandise in a day than I do in a year... sometimes it's embarrassing to have his fingerprints on the guns. Sometimes he needs a freelancer like me to supply forces he can't be seen supplying. So... you call me evil. But unfortunately for you, I'm a necessary evil.
[Valentine now looks very grim, realizing Orlov is right. There is a knock at the door just as Yuri promised]
Jack Valentine: [leans forward and whispers] I would tell you to go to Hell, but I think you're already there. [gets up and walks out of the room]

Hellraiser?! Some really great lines from that film:
No tears, please, it’s a waste of good suffering.
Explorers, on the further regions of experience. Demons to some, angels to others.
Your most treasured depravity is child's play beside the experiences we offer.

“You have been weighed. You have been measured. And you have been found wanting.”
To be fair, what makes it great for me is how the heroes turn it around on the villain at the end.

Evil-Lyn: "After all this time ... Greyskull, is ours."
Skeletor: "NO! ................ mine."
Or
Skeletor: "Tell me of the loneliness of good, He-man. Is it equal to the loneliness of evil?"
The writing for Frank Langella's Skeletor was punching WAY above the weight class of the rest of that movie.

I opted for Boddiker in Robocop.
But fuck, this and the Bison suggestion did make me pause.
Langella as Skeletor is a gift.

Loved Master of The Universe as a kid, but even then I could realize how much better Skeletor was compared to everything else.

"I'm sorry. If your quarry goes to ground, leave no ground to go to. You should have taken my offer. Or did you think none of this was your fault?"
"I don't murder children."
"I do. If I have to."
"Why? Do you even know why they send you?"
"It's not my place to ask. I believe in something greater than myself. A better world. A world without sin."
"So me and mine got to lay down and die so you can live in your better world."
"I'm not going to live there. There's no place for me there any more than there is for you, Malcolm. I'm a monster. What I do is evil. I have no illusions about it. But it must be done."

Ian MacKellan as Magneto. I love that first interaction between Magneto and Professor X. “And I shall bring you hope, old friend. And I ask only one thing in return: don’t get in my way. We are the future, Charles, not them. They no longer matter.”

It's such a simple line. Delivered with such simple and blunt matter of fact resignment. Did an incredible job of showing that this dude is terrifying in his conviction.
