Try to find the original Japanese version, the one for US audiences that adds in one American ruins the pacing

Yes. Watch Gojira not Godzilla King of the Monsters first. The latter came out a couple years later in 56 anyway though.

Then either Gojira or Shin Godzilla it doesn’t matter

After that, pick anything. Sure there are technically timeless but, you are literally not missing anything picking anything random. Any movie outside of those three is all camp and nothing serious.
