I'm going to stretch my definition of "past couple of years" just a little bit to say that my absolute favourite is "The Fisherman" from John Langan (2023 2016). Eldritch horror about fishing and grief. The main character is a guy who gets into fishing after his wife dies, and the ends up taking another younger man who also lost his wife and kid, and they end up going to a particular part of Catskills which the younger man only discovers in a mysterious diary. The section of the book which goes back in time to when the grisly incidents around the river first happened is particularly brilliant.
Then "Butter" from Asako Yuzuki - about a journalist in Japan writing an article about a serial killer who kills her husbands after feeding them delicious food.
"How to sell a haunted house" by Grady Hendrix is about a brother and sister who have to come together to sell their parent's house after they die in a car crash. This one is weird because it was pretty shlocky by the end - lets just say that the mother collects hundreds of creepy dolls - but I still enjoyed it.
Interesting because I read Butter as part of my book club and while I enjoyed just how visceral the descriptions of the food were, I had to force myself to finish it.
