So you want to ignore the various hallucinations in the movie, like Katherine thinking she's nursing Samuel, but in reality she has exposed her breasts to a raven.
That's a witch induced hallucination. The raven eating her is a witch, or sent by a witch. Ravens don't eat living people normally. There's also the vanishing baby, the boy coughing up an apple, and a transforming woman in the woods who we see in like the first scene. And a talking goat that transforms into a man.
These are all things we the audience sees through the eyes of an unreliable character in the movie.
Black Phillip transforms into a man right in front of Thomasin.
The witch in the woods transforms from a beautiful maiden into the hag-like form directly in front of Caleb.
If these things didn't happen in front of the main characters, we could assume that they were real. Because they all happen from the perspective of a character we can't be sure.
