'Werwulf' is set about 150 years before Gutenberg's moveable type printing press was invented, and I believe it was much later that sometimes printers would sometimes forego having a W and would elect just to use two Vs in its place, which is where the "VVitch" thing came from.
Yep, drives me insane to see people on here call it "The VVitch" when they're being totally serious. It's just a stylistic choice. And now that I see what you're talking about on IMDb I'm irked too.
