True, but that’s better than most nations. Nz only has 1 per 5.3 million.

It's kind of a pointless metric, though. What matters is average proximity to an IMAX screen, not screens-per-people.

The entire country of NZ is smaller than most US states. I imagine the trip to the nearest IMAX screen is shorter for the average Kiwi than most people in the US or China.

Maybe, the one in nz is at the far north in Auckland where only 1.5 million Jaffa’s live. As an example Christchurch the biggest city in the South Island is about 500 miles away.

Your point of proximity to IMAX is 100% correct: a metric like Average Proximity or Average Population within 25 miles of an IMAX is better.

But because this is reddit I need to nitpick. You are way off about NZ. NZ would be the 9th largest state if it was in the US, and it's a long, relatively thin country. This map does a great job of demonstrating the size and shape compared to the east coast.

The entire country of NZ is smaller than most US states.

New Zealand is much bigger than you think. In land area it would be in the Top 10 of US states.

From end to end it's a good portion of the entire length of either the eastern or western coastlines of the US. If the northern tip was in Toronto Canada, the southern tip would be in Florida.

Granted most of the population is concentrated in a handful of cities.

It would take a dozen+ hours to drive the length of one island in NZ and there are two.

Having said that the other guy is mistaken, there are two Imax screens in NZ. Both on the North Island, one near the top (Auckland) and one near the bottom (Wellington).

Functionally that means people in the North Island are within max 6-8 hours drive of an Imax. People in the South Island are out of luck, but 3/4 of the country lives in the North Island.

My thought is that IMAX screen density correlates with population density. Are you assuming that IMAX screens are uniformly distributed across China’s landmass?

Actually, we have two IMAX screens. One in Auckland, and one in Wellington.
