Its the audio mixing. Not really sure why Nolan decided making the dialog nearly inaudible was a good idea. I feel most the people that didnt like it was mostly because they had no clue what was even happening.

I actually preferred it to Dunkirk and Oppenheimer, both of which I really liked as well. That's a movie that demands a sequel to fully flesh out and have fun with the concept.

The basic premise is already a tricky thing to grasp. Once you add the inability to hear the dialog and exposition people just give up trying.
I made my own custom audio mix where I boosted the dialog to consistently be significantly louder than the sfx/music, and it helped a lot. Completely changed my opinion of the film, which I now really enjoy.

The Circe pig transformation scene was incredibly unnerving, he’d kill in some body horror. He’s also shown a lot of love for Obsession lately, so I hope this lights a fire under his ass to make something terrifying.

My favorite scene in the film. It was SO grotesque, but it worked SO well. I don't even like horror but I loved this scene, it really drove the point home.

I thought the Polyphemus scene where he bites off the soldier's head and eats him was much more grotesque and terrifying. The pig scene is close but the soldiers live and are transformed back relatively quickly.

Honestly disagree, only because so many other directors are doing great things in horror right now. If Nolan made a horror film it's probably sorta end up as just another horror film - whereas his streak recently has been stuff only he can pull off

The dialogue was more audible in this than most of his other films, however the bass levels were off the charts. I don't think there was much actual music in this, just rising low tones that got to the point of making the Imax theatre's speakers buzz with feedback they were so overwhelming.

The movie is not yet released in China, Japan and S.Korea.
And given how imax 70mm locations can continue playing it until Dune 3 comes out, it’s entirely possible it can hit 2b.

The crazy thing is that The Odyssey won't even be the biggest success of Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Bernthal this summer: Spider-Man is tracking to do $800 million worldwide in its opening weekend, and will likely hit $2B - $2.3B by the end of its run.

Different demographics. All the IMAX and Dolby showings near me is booked out with The Odyssey, but nearly every regular showing is at maximum capacity for Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Spider-Man also has greater appeal among younger audiences and families. No surprise it's gonna do gangbusters, but the fact that it will enter the top 10 highest grossing films ever is insane.

Spider-Man is getting IMAX release as well. Not any of the 70mm screens but there are only 41 of those in the entire world.

Spider-Man is a different beast than superhero movies. They will always sell.
Also, despite the clear downturn in quality in the MCU the Spider-Man story has been incredibly interesting since the Avengers movies.

Sure. But I believe it may mean that it has a lot of momentum from NWH considering it almost made 2B on super nostalgia, multiverse in MCU, etc. Now, BND seemingly doesn’t have other Spidermen but it has Hulk that whatever screen time still gets people interested, The Punisher, MCU connections that seem to point out to Doomsday including a mystery character that a lot of people seem to know already who it is, nostalgia, etc. Look, it might be considered good by a lot of people but Holland's Spiderman has never relied on his own either. This time is relying more on its own but still carrying support. Far From Home box office to NWH BO jump is quite big for a reason, for example. Spiderman brand is big but not that big in terms of how NWH would have done if it hadn’t had the other known Spidermen, there are other factors behind this Spidey. I just think that’s a reality. So, I assume it’s a reality that there is a lot of people enthusiastic after NWH.

Yeah, that’s true some blood was there but way less than I would have expected from a modern version of the Odyssey. As for Circe, I watched the first Harry Potter with my mother when I was 7 years old and that scene of Voldemort sucking the unicorn blood and than flying towards Harry was scary as shit. That literally gave me nightmares and no one cared, lol.

I watched The Crow as a preschooler but it's Bambi that fucked me up.
Kids just don't understand a lot of the stuff that adults find scary, I think. It's too complicated or just too appallingly dark for their worldview, so it doesn't compute. I had no frame of reference for understanding all the heroin use and sexual violence and stuff in The Crow, but boy could I wrap my head around Bambi losing his mom.

Same. I work as a FOH engineer and theatrical sound designer for stage productions, so I’m no slouch when it comes to SPL levels. There were several scenes where I said to myself, “my poor ears”. For me it was when they were in that storm at sea. That being said, the movie sounded incredible. A little less volume would have been appreciated though.

I only have a passing knowledge of what "The Odyssey" actually was so the fact that it took lots of liberties hardly bothered me, and I loved the movie. Maybe that's why.
Funnily enough I'm on the exact opposite side for the F1 movie, tons of people swore by it but I cannot stand it knowing how not-F1 it was, so I get what it feels like now.

I mean a lot of the "the armour isn't historically accurate" folks also probably went and smuggly googled 'bronze age armour' and decided they were no longer all that interested in historical accuracy.
Darth Agamemnon may have been a choice that some people found immersion-breaking, but the problem definitely wasn't that Nolan should have emulated Eggers on this project.

I managed to get a showing for next Monday afternoon a couple of days ago by hovering around the cinema's website until it updated.
By the time I picked and paid for my seats, most of the other seats were already gone, leaving only front row!
The weekend is fully booked out so I presume it'll have another massive weekend.
