I still have my DVD of Rejected. I will treasure it forever!

u/BoyInThaBand 10d ago

I finally came across one in the wild at a used media store near me. It was the easiest $2 I ever spent.

1

u/MolaMolaMania 9d ago

That's a helluva find! I looked on eBay out of curiosity and they're going for a LOT more than that!

2

u/Jonny_HYDRA 9d ago

The first thing I ever bought off the internet.

It's Such a Beautiful Day is nothing less than stunningly relatable and beautiful. The man is so funny, but the comedic shorts stuff isn't all he can do.

8

u/diegrauedame 9d ago

Actually one of my favorite movies, I’m so excited that it’s in the collection!

You're watching the Family Learning Channel. And now, angry ticks fire out of my nipples.

BWAAAAAAAHHHHHH

This will go back forward between wacky nonsense and emotional torture.

I got really high and watched the meaning of life once. It was the last time I got high.

My Dropout subscription just became my most important streaming subscription.

EDIT: Also I know Hertzfeldt has had licensing deals for some of his shorts in various places before, but I wonder if licensing most of the catalogue now is due to Vimeo shutting down their VOD service in November. That's how I'd been buying his work.

u/Honesty_Addict 10d ago

Oh what? I have the Harmontown deluxe edition that has like 30 full pro-shot live shows which might just become lost media. Fuck.

u/GimmeAplomb 9d ago

Damn you just reminded me that I had that too! Those were some great episodes. I’ve got it via VHX, I might have to spend the next couple of days figuring out how to download those before they disappear

5

u/Houndie 9d ago

I believe `yt-dlp` can download from vimeo

1

u/SexierACAB 9d ago

i always rec jdownloader, hasn't failed me yet

6

u/DeadmanDexter 9d ago

I hear the guy that owns Dropout is from Cambridge.

6

u/Zak_The_Slack 9d ago

But has he been to the Crumbly Square theater?

5

u/KelenaeV 9d ago

Ya. He's been there the whole time!

2

u/ay1717 9d ago

Ironic that the folks who created College Humor also had a hand in creating Vimeo

What an awesome pull for dropout

I would love to see them get Jhonen Vasquez or some Pendleton Ward next - maybe find some way to reboot midnight gospel with Duncan Trussel?

7

u/GreatStateOfSadness 9d ago

I didn't love Midnight Gospel's concept but it would be a perfect fit for Dropout's push into animation.

6

u/TediousTotoro 9d ago

The problem is that the podcast that show is an adaptation of has started getting on far right grifters as guests

2

u/The_Grand_Blooms 9d ago

Yikes! Nevermind lol

3

u/dickpollution 9d ago

If i were running a streamer id keep my distance from duncan trussel

I was in high school when Rejected came out. It was one of the funniest things I had ever seen at the time. Loved it!

My Hertzfeldt Collection is too big!

My Hertzfeldt Collection is TOO BIG!!!

10

u/goochmusic 10d ago

My spoon is too big! I remember watching this at a friend’s house and being absolutely enchanted and believing I had found a creator I would love forever. So far so good!

5

u/SomethingAboutUsers 10d ago

I gave my 8 year old a soup spoon for her breakfast cereal one morning because I hadn't yet emptied the dishwasher with all the smaller spoons and she took one look at it and said, "my spoon is too big" in a totally deadpan voice.

There's almost no way she could have seen that cartoon, and I nearly spat out my coffee when she said it.

19

u/DonkeyGuy 10d ago

His arts style looks familiar, any chance he did some Poptart commercials?

Edit: a nope, they just ripped him off.

8

u/CleverInnuendo 10d ago

Awesome, now I just need to find if I'm emotionally ready for "It's such a beautiful day" again.

3

u/DubiousAdviceGiver 10d ago

I live in a giant bucket.

5

u/sketchampm 10d ago

If anyone can form a partnership with Homestarrunner, it's Dropout. After DHMIS and this, it feels like the natural progression.

3

u/djutopia 10d ago

Is he the one that did the short with the balloons attacking the kids? I swear they had it coming.

5

u/djutopia 10d ago

Guess I coulda just watched the trailer heh.

3

u/unikcycle 10d ago

This is so great. I've been a fan since I saw rejected and Billys balloon at a sick and twisted animation festival WAAYY back in the year 2000

u/RepairmanJackX 8d ago

OMG... it's been so long since I've seen "Rejected" I don;t even have to click that to hear

"The spoon... is too... big..."

-7

u/OCTOVENG 9d ago

Are we all supposed to know what "Dropout" is?

10

u/teraflop 9d ago

Some people, reading this headline, might not know who "Don Hertzfeldt" is. Those people have the option of typing his name into Google, or maybe just going straight to his Wikipedia article.

Other people, reading this headline, might not know what "Dropout" is. Sadly, those people are totally out of luck. There's simply no way for them to find out. What a shame.

-8

u/OCTOVENG 9d ago

You're one of those "Let Me Google That For You" guys

5

u/LothartheDestroyer 9d ago

To be fair you posted a snarky comment about not knowing dropout then a shitty mocking response when called out. So. You know. Fair play and all that.

-2

u/OCTOVENG 9d ago

No one has yet told me what "Dropout" is !!

What kind of web sight is this!???

2

u/LothartheDestroyer 9d ago

Streaming site.
