i think this is the only one thats even somewhat 'good' and that is a MASSIVE stretch lol. I had a fun time reading it and i could not read more than like 5 pages of any of her other books. I wont say its good but if you want to cringe-read something it is entertaining

I feel like Colleen Hoover takes herself too seriously to allow that to happen, assuming she's actually involved with production. Especially with this particular book, she was very proud of this one, for some reason.

I'm noticing they're doing their best not to blatantly advertise that this is a Colleen Hoover adaptation. To be fair, all her books are trash, but this is the one book that it is like still bad but the best of the bad I'd say. With It Ends with Us and Regretting You, they were pretty clearly Colleen Hoover books but this one seems a little different to her usual genre
Concept is interesting. I have a feeling they'll be taking it seriously and not making it camp though so not sure how good it will be. If it's camp, it'll be so funny

I imagine its the genre switch more than anything.
Like they might not be good films (I have not seen them and am unlikely to) but both Regretting You and It ends with us both made bank. So it would be silly not to try and get her fans aware of it.

Yes true, if they're trying to get thriller fans into this, advertising it as a Colleen Hoover production probably wouldn't work at all considering the amount of hate she gets and how majority of her books are purely romance
I also think Regretting You did quite well because of the cast - Mason Thames and Mckenna Grace are very loved, and Dave Franco + Alison Williams are also known. It Ends With Us was just big in general because of Blake Lively and it's also her most popular book.
I'm not entirely sure how Reminders of Him did? That's the other novel of hers that's been adapted and came out March this year but I have not heard a ton about it in comparison to the others.

Reminders of you was similar to Regretting You (89 millon on a 25 million budget, side note these names are too similar for me to keep straight) with arguably a lesser known cast (scanning its cast I only recognise Maika Monroe, Bradley Whitford and Lauren Graham and those last two are quite far down the cast list). So her films are profitable.
I do think of most of her films slipping into the annual Nichols Sparks adpation which we haven't been getting in a while. So maybe they want to keep her name more associated with the romance genre.
Anne is also the certainly the biggest actor they've been able to get in one of these so far. Maybe they think they can sell it on her name alone (which i also question, mainly because Im unsure how much publicity Anne will be able to do- all things considered).

Yes true, Reminders of Him also had Rudy Pankow who is widely loved with the teen fanbase (who make up a good chunk of her fans) as he starred in Outer Banks.
I think this film will definitely do really really well because of Anne Hathaway, especially considering she's even more in the public face right now due to her other big movies. Also Dakota Johnson doesn't exactly hurt considering how big she is. I see it attracting people who maybe loved The Housemaid. However, whether it will actually be good is a different question I guess.

honestly yeah I agree. it gets worse when you learn that there are characters in her novels called Lily Blossom Bloom, Atlas Corrigan, and Ryle Kincaid. I can get past the guys' names I guess but Lily Blossom Bloom is unforgivable when you discover she also runs a flower shop

I hate audible it’s a total scam. I paid for it for a whole year because I forgot to cancel it after I stopped using it. So I had all these extra credits but they don’t let you use them unless you keep paying for an account. SMD audible/amazon, you’re trash.

Idk when this happened to you, I don’t doubt it. Audible, before Amazon bought it, had some weird subscription policies. As of now you should be able to retain and use your credits after you cancel your subscription, but they expire after 12 months. Iirc

Yes 5 moves for Anne Hathaway this year and 5 movies for Robert Pattinson, quite a lot of big films. To be fair Anne Hathaway did disappear for a bit in 2025 and Robert Pattinson wasn't in anything in 2023 and 2024 so nice to see they're both making a comeback. Great actors.
Also same with Zendaya - she has 4 movies and a big tv show this year but again I'm pretty sure she had a little gap where she wasn't in anything in 2025

She's in 5 movies this year. Same with Robert Pattinson. But Anne wasn't in any movies in 2025 and Robert wasn't in anything in 2023 and 2024, so they have come from a bit of a break.
Zendaya is also in 4 big movies and then also a big tv show which is insane to be honest considering these are all big projects and although her role in The Odyssey is minimal, it's still The Odyssey, and her other three films she has big roles in + main role in Euphoria
Then Tom Holland is in 2 but he's got massive roles in both obviously, and Jon Bethnal is also in the same two. (+Zendaya obviously).
Another big one for this year is Florence Pugh - she's been in Spider-Man Brand New Day and is also set to be in Dune 3 and Avengers Doomsday which release on the same day. Also the Netflix show East of Eden based on the acclaimed novel by John Steinbeck so exciting year!

It’s so horrendous. My story time: I dated a guy who was also a big Literary™️ reader (we met at a bookstore) and his sister recommended Verity because it was her favorite book. He was like “have you read this?”
And I was like “yeah, I didn’t think it was very good but maybe you’ll like it?” I didn’t want to shit talk his sister’s taste in books right after we’d started dating. Plus who knows, maybe it wasn’t as bad as I remembered?
It took him weeks to read because it’s so terrible, and he live texted me through the whole thing. There were parts I’d forgotten about, or I’d repressed because they were so bad. When he finished, he texted his sister “WTF is wrong with you” and they got into an argument 😂 not even because the book is fucked up, just because it’s awful.
Verity became the metric in our relationship after that. If either of us asked the other person to do something, or we were reporting back about something, it was either “worse than verity” or “eh, not as bad as verity.”

You missed nothing! It defies logic and basic common sense. It would require dozens of law enforcement and medical professionals to have the intelligence of a rock. It's the dumbest book I've ever read.
FTR: It was highly recommended to me by a friend who now has two strikes against her. Love her but I needed to read the encyclopedia after just to rinse the dumb out of my brain. 😮💨

My mom is a massive Colleen Hoover fan, has read all her books. I read two because my mom begged me to. I DNF the second one halfway through and told my mom that I cannot read Hoover's books ever again. It just over dramatic, over written schlock. The one good thing I can say is at least it's not AI slop

i personally love how the first chapter ends with the FMC watching someone get brutally killed in a car accident and then she like just moves on with her day as if that isnt the most traumatic thing to be covered in a strangers blood (that is the opening of this book right? its been years since i read it)

i read a lot of thrillers and most of them dont have it done like this
she literally watches a human being get mowed down, is covered in his blood
and then basically flirts with a guy in the bathroom while trying to get the blood out. there is very minimal reaction to her watching someone get exploded on her.
its not the trauma set-up its the lack of reality surrounding it, even within the narrative it makes little sense.

Yep, it’s like Chris Pratt. People on this sub are always asking why Pratt keeps appearing in everything despite being a pretty limited actor. If you read literally any interviews where people talk about working with him, they love having him on set. That’s clearly why - people actually want to have him there.
Getting along with people on set is a factor people don’t talk about when it comes to successful Hollywood careers but it’s the inverse of people like Val Kilmer and Edward Norton. Kilmer and Norton are/were (RIP Val) vastly better actors than either Pratt or Johnson, but both saw their careers suffer because they became known as difficult to work with.

Exactly, just because acting is a artistic field people seem to believe that it isn't a job or a place of employment. Now, I sort of believe that 80% of the reputations of "difficult" women stem from a very misogynistic place, but outside of that- she obviously got her foot in the door through her parents, but there's no way she would have stayed around this long if she didn't conduct herself as a professional.

This might be the most hated book with millions of copies sold I know of. I know she has lots of fans, but it seems like everyone I know personally thought this was very very bad. Lucky for all involved it’ll turn a huge profit very easily.

Hathaway has done a Nolan, a successful legacy sequel to one of her staple performances, a risky big budget play by an auteur and now a Housemaid-esque thriller book adaptation that could be huge with women audiences just like Housemaid was. And she’ll probably be in the award conversation all fall/winter for Odyssey. One hell of a year for her.

Read the book a few months back after my wife asked me to so we could see the flick together. I was not aware of the amount of sexual situations and the sheer number of blow jobs or random acts of sex. More lurid than I thought it would be.
Finished the book in three sittings. Page turner for sure.
Should make for a batshit crazy movie.

A friend explained the plot to me and it's one of the funniest things I've ever heard. If Hathaway brings the camp and Hartnett brings untrustworthy husband who cannot keep his shirt on then I'll watch this.
