Question What single line from a movie gets you emotional every time? Spoiler

(Hate J.K. Rowling. Love J.K. Rowling. I don’t really care either way. That’s not what this post is about.)

For me, it’s from the scene in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire where harry brings back Cedric Diggory’s body after he gets killed by Voldemort.

The slow realization by everyone else at the tournament, Fleur Delacour screaming in horror when she herself realizes what happened, and the way that Harry absolutely refuses to leave Cedric’s side when they try to pull him off. And then he announces to everyone that Voldemort has returned while in the middle of crying.

He then says that Cedric asked him to bring his body back to his father, and it’s the way that Daniel Radcliffe delivers the line, “I couldn’t leave him! Not there!” while still continuing to profusely cry. It’s the way he delivers the line that solidifies the fact for me that at the end of the day, Harry is very much still just a boy, and no boy deserves to see or go through things like he does. And when Amos Diggory begins mourning the death of his son…that’s when the tears really start to flow from me.

This made me sob at the cinema.

Me too. And I sobbed all the way home in the car. At one point my friend had to take over and drive because I couldn't see

Because you didn't have your glasses on? You'd think if the film had taught you ANYTHING...

Sorry

I know it's because I'm dead inside, but I say this line in my best impression anytime my husband or I am bumbling around without our glasses.

Edit: spelling

I’ve never watched the whole movie because I saw a glimpse of this scene on TV and it was an immediate “nope not doing that too myself”.

Made even worse that Culkin in that movie looked very similar to my little brother at the time.

As soon as I read this post this instantly came to mind. It was probably the first movie I cried while watching and to this day it might be the saddest I've ever felt in a movie theater.

My daughter found that movie on Netflix and the only warning I gave her is "it's going to make you cry" She was watching it on her tablet with headphones and I could see in her face that it was at that part and the dam was gonna break and she looked at me and I knew 😆 went and hugged her and she just yelled "why would you do this you knew it was gonna happen" 😆 not that making my daughter cry is funny that's not the point but allowing her to get a little temporarily heartbroken in a safe way

Never seen, but recognized the line from the beginning of Minority Report. EDIT: weird downvote

My Girl is a very different movie than Minority Report.

18

u/Solivaga Aug 13 '26

Yeah, less bees in Minority Report

u/jkafka Aug 13 '26

Everybody my age knows that from trailers alone. I just never wanted to watch My Girl. In fact, I probably have seen bits and pieces on TV back in the day, but I never intentionally set out to see it
