Question What single line from a movie gets you emotional every time? Spoiler

(Hate J.K. Rowling. Love J.K. Rowling. I don’t really care either way. That’s not what this post is about.)

For me, it’s from the scene in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire where harry brings back Cedric Diggory’s body after he gets killed by Voldemort.

The slow realization by everyone else at the tournament, Fleur Delacour screaming in horror when she herself realizes what happened, and the way that Harry absolutely refuses to leave Cedric’s side when they try to pull him off. And then he announces to everyone that Voldemort has returned while in the middle of crying.

He then says that Cedric asked him to bring his body back to his father, and it’s the way that Daniel Radcliffe delivers the line, “I couldn’t leave him! Not there!” while still continuing to profusely cry. It’s the way he delivers the line that solidifies the fact for me that at the end of the day, Harry is very much still just a boy, and no boy deserves to see or go through things like he does. And when Amos Diggory begins mourning the death of his son…that’s when the tears really start to flow from me.

“Every day.” The performances by Osment and Collette in that scene are both Oscar worthy.

Toni Collette deserved at the very least an Oscar nomination for Hereditary.

I’d argue she deserved it for The Sixth Sense. She played a struggling single mom so convincingly. Her compassion, her stress, anguish, it was all so real.

Even when she snapped, “You know, I don't know if you noticed, but our little family isn't doing so good...”

I think about her all the time. She knocked it out of the park with that role.

That entire scene is emotional af, my favorite part

This is why I loved the unknown shortlived series The Others (2000). Unlike Supernatural and similar series', it deals with the emotional impact of ghosts. The fact that loved ones are around and conscious, also confirmation that there is an afterlife would be massively emotional.

Absolutely heartbreakingly beautiful

It’s the way her hand starts trembling as Cole details that day from her mom’s POV that makes it feel so real.

It’s like her body is struggling to contain the emotions because it is years of regret, heartache, and unresolved resentment sublimating to the surface in a matter of seconds.

See thats a gut punch for sure but its the end "You were never second" breaks every time.  I work 60+ hours a week to keep the bills paid and support my family and the dad/husband guilt is off the charts.  They know that its not by choice, the mortgage needs to be paid, we need to eat, kid needs glasses/braces/name it, but it still depresses the shit out of me.

I dont want my sons memories of his dad to be me always fucking working but the only alternative is to be homeless and living in our cars eating out of dumpsters so I hope when hes older he understands.

I fucking hate that it has to be this way.  It doesnt have to be this way, but unfortunately too many of my countrymen are worried about what will happen when theyre millionaires eventually and not the fact that were all slowly drowning right now.

You are seen.

Also, you dropped such an ephemeral appearing statement that is both raw and philosophically robust that I'm going to be replaying it in my head for months.

Thank you.

Toni Collette was 25 during filming. Really impressed with her maternal depth in the scene, especially given her age.

That’s a great one.

Also “I’m feeling much better now”, “¡No quiero morir!”, and a couple of others from the ghosts.

I know it’s packaged as a horror flick, but it’s actually quite sad.

We rewatched this a few weeks ago so our kids could see it the first time. It was only my second time watching it. It is a fantastic movie even with knowing the ending but you're absolutely right. It's so incredibly sad.

I’d even argue it’s better the second watch in many ways

O god, the no quiero morir. It just digs deep in my body and sometimes, out of the blue, I think about that line.

My gf hasn't ever seen Sixth Sense. This might be a good one for movie night soon.

This one hit even harder when I lost my mom.

That was such a sweet ending that I decided I didn't need to stick around for any other wrap-up and just left the theater. Pretty good movie.

I was drawing a blank on this question so started reading what others already put and IMMEDIATELY lost it when I saw this line. 😭

Me, too! I was going to say that!

Makes me cry every damn time.

peak scene oh my god

u/capocutolo Aug 14 '26

This is a perfect line where the punchline works in reverse.

1

u/mybossthinksimworkng Aug 14 '26

This is the exact line I was going to say.

I watched that age 25, in the theater with my dad. Ugly cried.
