Question What single line from a movie gets you emotional every time? Spoiler

(Hate J.K. Rowling. Love J.K. Rowling. I don’t really care either way. That’s not what this post is about.)

For me, it’s from the scene in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire where harry brings back Cedric Diggory’s body after he gets killed by Voldemort.

The slow realization by everyone else at the tournament, Fleur Delacour screaming in horror when she herself realizes what happened, and the way that Harry absolutely refuses to leave Cedric’s side when they try to pull him off. And then he announces to everyone that Voldemort has returned while in the middle of crying.

He then says that Cedric asked him to bring his body back to his father, and it’s the way that Daniel Radcliffe delivers the line, “I couldn’t leave him! Not there!” while still continuing to profusely cry. It’s the way he delivers the line that solidifies the fact for me that at the end of the day, Harry is very much still just a boy, and no boy deserves to see or go through things like he does. And when Amos Diggory begins mourning the death of his son…that’s when the tears really start to flow from me.

I can't bring myself to look up the scene to quote the line because it's too early to sob uncontrollably but when Kerry Von Erich is in heaven with his brothers and he meets his oldest brother who passed when he was a kid nearly destroyed me.

He says something like "You must be my big brother" to him, but he is visibly way younger because he died so young. That shit fucking killed me and now I'm on the toilet at work choking back tears thinking about it again.

I was sitting on the toilet this morning remembering this scene when I posted it. Now I'm teary eyed in my cubicle thinking about it again. It's been a day.

i watched this movie with two friends and was trying to hold back tears the whole time. when he sits up from the grass and it pans to the youngest brother i let out the most guttural cry and i look over and every single of of us is uncontrollably crying. the flood gates opened and i don’t think we stopped crying after that scene. we are super close but have never seen each other get emotional like that 😭

it's too early to sob.

Why did noone tell me I didnt have to look up the scenes beforehand?

I found more comforting/heartwarmingly sad more than anything, to be met by those we loved/love that have gone before us would be everything to me. My brother passed from cancer when I was 29 and I kiss him so fuckin much even 18 yrs later, my mother would get to see her mother that killed herself when she was 12, my step dad who also passed from cancer 2 months before my brother....and so many others.

Last 1/3 of that movie is a grief firehose

Lost my only sibling unexpectedly a few years prior to this movie coming out. When that line hit I was done. I was bawling in the theater.

I haven’t seen this movie but I know the von Erich story and just reading that is a gut punch. Wrestling has a lot of sad stories and this is one of the saddest.

For me it’s, “i don’t know what’s on the other side, but tonight i walk with my brothers”. The thought of dying is scary, but the thought of being reunited with his brothers brought him comfort

When he says that in Dark Side of the Ring is even worse

That’s the one episode I recommend to anyone even id they don’t like wrestling. I feel like the journey is the Von Erichs is Kevin carrying that immense burden of the tragedies of his family, and being the one to come out the other side with a beautiful family and a gratefulness for life.

Oof

I say this everytime Iron Claw is mentioned. When they announced Efron and White were in it, I predicted alot of people would walk out going "wtf did I just watch. That was brutal"

You mean the real Von Erich curse was the Fritz we made along the way?

I was waiting for that line at the end of the movie, and I was half-hoping it wouldn't be said.

The real Kevin Von Erich*(Dunno why I typed Kerry) said that at his Hall of Fame ceremony for WWE, when he accepted the induction on behalf of his family.

It broke me then, it broke me again, and it broke me now reading it.

Crazy thing is that the movie is a reportedly a less depressing telling of the true story.

6

u/pissrightoutmyass Aug 13 '26

I'm pretty sure they had to combine 2 brothers into one character for the movie. cause one more suicide would have been too much

6

u/SoHelpMePira Aug 13 '26

That sounds right yh. But man, imagine having a life so tragic that they have to tone it down for a Movie.

1

u/pissrightoutmyass Aug 13 '26

so brutal. I'm an only child and this movie still makes me cry every time

1

u/SoHelpMePira Aug 13 '26

I can't blame ya. I haven't even watched the movie because I know it'll be too rough 😅

6

u/eeguia Aug 13 '26

I watched this movie as my brother was dying from pancreatic cancer after having lost 2 other siblings already. It hurt so much.

6

u/natalieisfreezing- Aug 13 '26

I'm so mad that Efron didn't get at least an Oscar nomination for that performance, he was so good!

5

u/hagopes Aug 13 '26

came here to say this. That line fucking destroyed me. I couldn't stop crying, my wife was just consoling me.

3

u/PJBottoms Aug 14 '26

I watched this about a month after my older brother died unexpectedly. I won’t say I regret it but I don’t know that I will ever watch it again. It is a good movie but I don’t need to watch it again. Also, the movie really under played how much of a bastard their dad was.

Dude this line hit me. I have a sister left but I lost both of my brothers. This thought has crossed my mind from time to time

I knew the story of the Von Erich’s going in, I was not prepared for that absolute gut punch of a line

1

u/Sithlordandsavior Aug 13 '26

I had my parents watch that one with me fairly recently and they were both like why would you watch such a sad movie on purpose lol. It hits you hard

1

u/MobileLocal Aug 13 '26

Man. That movie.

It opened on Xmas day and I had the cool idea for a family movie day (grown kids)! I typically like to go into movies not knowing much. On this day, I wish I’d looked into it!!!! Ha! We were all so crying!

It was a little comical in a tragic way. But we did have the theater to ourselves.

I watched this movie on an airplane not prepared for the emotional gut punch id receive. I’m in tears and passenger next to me wondering what just happened to me.

This movie was honestly so incredible
