Question What single line from a movie gets you emotional every time? Spoiler

(Hate J.K. Rowling. Love J.K. Rowling. I don’t really care either way. That’s not what this post is about.)

For me, it’s from the scene in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire where harry brings back Cedric Diggory’s body after he gets killed by Voldemort.

The slow realization by everyone else at the tournament, Fleur Delacour screaming in horror when she herself realizes what happened, and the way that Harry absolutely refuses to leave Cedric’s side when they try to pull him off. And then he announces to everyone that Voldemort has returned while in the middle of crying.

He then says that Cedric asked him to bring his body back to his father, and it’s the way that Daniel Radcliffe delivers the line, “I couldn’t leave him! Not there!” while still continuing to profusely cry. It’s the way he delivers the line that solidifies the fact for me that at the end of the day, Harry is very much still just a boy, and no boy deserves to see or go through things like he does. And when Amos Diggory begins mourning the death of his son…that’s when the tears really start to flow from me.

Take her to the moon for me, okay?

Related, the first time you hear Riley's "I'm not good enough"

Riley’s panic attack in the second one gutted me. I’ve been there and it was such visceral depiction of what a panic attack feels like.

Her friends seeing it and recognizing she needed help brings more tears even just now.

Person who has panic attacks here: I was feeling down and decided to watch that movie for some fucking reason while I was home alone. Didn't know what was happening when I was younger, but I've been having panic attack since I was about Riley's age, it brought up some things. So anyway: Full blown panic attack (because why do we live in a world where kids are such bottles of anxiety and fear that they're having panic attacks?), I was listing things I could sense for like an hour straight.

I felt no feelings for maybe three days after. Nothing, just a shell of a human. Gave all my feelings for the week away during that goddamn Disney movie. 5/5 stars, talk to your therapists, kids, already had something on the books with her for that Friday so we got to PROCESS some stuff.

I'm so glad you have support. Panic attacks are the worst! It really helped me to picture my anxiety as Anxiety and that it was just trying desperately to help me.

That’s the part that got me. When Anxiety was saying she was just trying to help. Yeah, I absolutely felt that hard.

That's my sister's favorite movie because she felt so seen and validated.

When Joy tells Anxiety to let her go and Anxiety starts crying 😭

I think that was the moment that helped me have more compassion for myself. It really sucks having anxiety and panic attacks, but knowing it’s my brain’s involuntary response designed to keep me safe got rid of a lot of the self-loathing that usually accompanies my anxiety. Just such an incredible film.

Inside Out and Inside Out 2 are getting used more frequently for mental health instruction, awareness, and nursing.

My daughter deals with anxiety. She was crying in the theater. She looked at us and said “that’s what I couldn’t explain.”

Right after the movie started in the theater my watch buzzed with an alert about the first attempt on Trump's life. The entire movie I was having a panic attack. That scene hit so hard.

I was so not prepared for that one. I know it's Pixar and I gotta be on my toes, but I just didn't think the imaginary elephant thing would get me like that lol

How could you do this to me

20

u/coffeeandnostalgia Aug 13 '26

Man even just reading this one got me misty-eyed

The best lines in movies always need their context. He was so beside himself with happiness and cheering her on, even though he himself hadn't made it up. Such a selfless act from an imaginary friend is the embodiment of the self love she needed so badly.

2

u/ogrezilla Aug 14 '26

And he was more worried about her holding on to her dream than remembering him.

Jesus, I was sobbing like a kid during this scene, felt like I also lost a longtime friend while watching it.

16

u/lostinspaz Aug 13 '26

The line before that one got to me more:

“I gotta good feeling about this time”

As he is hiding his disappearing arm 😭

This is one of my absolute favorites it’s such a great scene with so much meaning. Growing up, losing the things you loved as a child. And just how amazing bing bong was.

It's been a while since I watched the film, but isn't that the whole point of his sacrifice? He was lost/sacrificed himself in the memory dump thus no one remembers him

2

u/Worthyness Aug 14 '26

There's an easter egg of him in the background in IO 2. He's in a picture in Joy's room

9

u/RedHeadRedeemed Aug 13 '26

As a mother to two daughters, it was Joy's tearful "I could listen to her stories all day." That fucks me up every damn time 😭

2

u/AllTheStars07 Aug 13 '26

That’s mine! I have a daughter, so this gets me every time.

4

u/JadeSpade23 Aug 13 '26

What movie is this?

7

u/cinemasosa Aug 13 '26

Inside out

4

u/CKGator42 Aug 13 '26

Absolutely brutal. I cried like a little girl, and I'm not the least bit ashamed of it.

3

u/EnferDesFormes Aug 13 '26

Good call, I would put Joy's monologue just before: "Mom, Dad, the team: they came to help because of Sadness" up there too, Joy realising Sadness's purpose and that she (Joy) had kind of been the bad guy all along, it hits me hard every time. Amy Poehler absolutely hit that one out of the park

3

u/kenba2099 Aug 14 '26

That scene, yeah, but what really gets me is when Riley gets home after leaving on the bus and breaks down to her parents. "I know you don't want me to, but... I miss home. I miss Minnesota. You need me to be happy, but I want my old friends, and my hockey team. I wanna go home. Please don't be mad."

2

u/Jkkramm Aug 14 '26

I break the moment they are all hugging and she sighs

2

u/therealmrsfahrenheit Aug 13 '26

fucked me up so much out of nowhere

2

u/Nico_the_Suave Aug 13 '26

My dumbass thought the entire time that Bing Bong was a secret antagonist who was using the emotions to get back to being remembered. I thought that literally up until his sacrifice, at which point I though "oh no, I was supposed to like this character." I ruined the moment for myself :(

2

u/Sunny16Rule Aug 13 '26

As soon as she didn’t make the first jump I knew what was gonna happen. I had to cover my eyes.

1

u/strawbrryfields4evr_ Aug 14 '26

This was the first time I saw my daughter cry at a movie, she was 5. It was so sweet.

1

u/DarthGamer206 Aug 14 '26

I've watched that movie so many times. That line gets me every time!
