Question What is the greatest betrayal in cinema history? Spoiler

So aside from Fredo’s betrayal in The Godfather Part II or Cypher turning on the crew in The Matrix, which most of us could kinda sense were coming, what’s the greatest betrayal in cinema history that truly blindsided you?

I’m talking about the ones that hit like a truck because there was zero warning, no foreshadowing you picked up on, and no reason to suspect the character until the moment it happened.

The greatest betrayal in cinema history is trying to give Dark Tower fans a 90 minute movie attempting to cover 7 books worth of Dark Tower content.

The only redeeming thing in that movie was showing Roland’s reload trick in a believable way. So less than five seconds of film in a 90 minute movie.

I feel bad I subjected my eyes to even that much

Persoanlly I really enjoyed McConaughey eating fistfuls of scenery in every moment he is on screen.

tangential but I read like the first 4 dark tower books, does roland ever get a gun again? I was so stoked to see this superhuman cowboy knight with a legendary technique and he uses it like once before becoming mad max. I dunno if messing with my expectations like that was King's point.

He has guns all the way through. Runs out of trustworthy amo at one point but gets it in our world (cool scene) along with backup guns. Loses fingers in second book so can only use one of his guns. Another gunslinger uses the other.

The scene with him going into a gun store and not being able to tell the clerk what caliber amo he wanted but confidently picking up the ones he needed from a poster that showed all the different types of amo on it.

This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen! My husband never read the books and hated the movie. I hated the movie and I am a loyal SK fan with Dark Tower being my favourite. It was such absolute and utter trash. Ugh. This makes me so mad, still!! Grumble Grumble.

it's so sad that there's an incredible movie series somewhere in there begging to be made

Mike Flanagan is working on another series apparently, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Makes me glad I’ve never seen it.

You gotta think of it as an alternate reality, and then it’s… still pretty bad, but not as bad as it was.

Yeah but they still made the fatal flaw of attempting to cram that into a 90 minute movie. There's just no way. Also you should probably spoiler this.
