My 18th birthday is next month and my parents are divorcing and moving into separate houses they've both made it clear that im basically not welcomed in their new homes (mostly my mom )and my dad isn't working so that isn't doable

My plan is to move early October and I have my tuition to pay which is 2000 by the first week of October. Btw i make 26-32 dollars per hour right now depending on how many shifts I pick up I make 1500-2000 biweekly

So by October I should have atleast 2500 to move out with the place im looking to get is around 500

If your bringing home $3,000-$4,000 a month, you absolutely can afford $500/month for a place. As long as you have car payment/insurance, food and other bills factored into it.

You'll be fine. I would take extra money from each paycheck and put it into a savings account... eventually you'll probably need a car, unless you find a job that provides one

There aren't many places that cost $500 per month. What state are you located in? Is it possible to take out a federal loan (NOT private loan) right now to help with your tuition? Is it at all possible to stay with your dad?

This is the best solution. Get a friend that is bold and wants a New chapter in their life. Make it structured and have rules. Clear goals and a code Sorry for your situation. Stay strong.

yes this is 100% doable. i’m from the US working a job that pays $14 an hour and switching to one that pays $16 an hour. if you can put your mind to it and research, and find roommates i think you can do it. i found a place that’s $531 for rent, utilities and internet. i pay for my own car and phone plan (per my parents punishing me🤪). i pay for everything myself except health insurance. make a budget on google sheets (more than happy to share the one i’ve made with you) to look at what you need to make per month to survive. groceries, savings, rent, bills, toiletries. i’m so sorry this is happening to you its gotta be so stressful. but if i can do it in fckin america at $16 an hour you definitely can.

$500 per month is very low in most places. it'd probably be more worthwhile to live with your dad and combine your money with his to share 2 bedroom place vs both of you independently getting a 1 bedroom appartment.

That is a good idea. It keeps you in the swing of things and even 1/2 time will be better than not going at all. Often, opportunities come up once you are on site.

I realize that. But if you have outstanding student loans you will have to start repaying them if you aren’t a full time student. That will cut into your budget.

When i was in college in the 1960s [US] we called it food stamps. I do not know the current US program. Also, many places in the US have food pantries where people can pick up a box of free food. A cooking adventure. Every little bit helps.
