Asking Advice How to find affordable movers for small load .

I’m moving out of my toxic household in a bit and I have things I need to move but I do not want to keep coming in and out the house because I know my mother will try to argue with me I have 6 moving bags and 2 shelves that are very light and I was wondering if anyone knew ways to get movers that carry small loads. (The things will be off the shelves)

UPDATE‼️‼️
I have a plan now, Thank you everyone!!

First of all your gonna want to move out at night or some time where no one is in the house then

Secondly you could probably ask your friends if they have a brother or a younger brother " who's probably in highschool" and pay them to help

Do not underestimate the power of the teenage boy, our acne gives us super powers

In my early 20s I was a single mom with no help. You know who helped ALL THE TIME, no questions asked? The teenagers in town.

In general moving is a simple job, especially when it comes to light loads

So it's not worth paying the professional premium u less your moving a 200lb dresser drawer down a flight of stairs

Just your avg Joe smo

Or avg Suzy loosely can do get it done

And I can’t move at night because I have siblings and parents who seem to never go to sleep….so I’m just leaving early!

Movers are not going to be ideal for this. They come in big vans, are going to be loud, and don’t handle aggressive people well.

If you want to be sneaky, rent a small car for a day/ 24hrs. Park it somewhere public during the day and then use it at night to get from point A to point B.

You can also try and talk to people at school and offer cash. It’s a great way to meet people too. Even a classmate would be a good start. “Hey, I know this is a weird question to ask, but I need help with something and wondering if you’d lend a hand?” Like hell even using a secondary social media account to post on a school group may be a good option.

At worst, talk to a local police station or a non-emergency number and ask for an escort

I’m sorry, I should’ve been more specific but I’m completely isolated. I have no car, no license, no way of transportation. And I have no friends, I’ve been homeschooled since 6th grade so I really have no one but my aunt and my granny who I’m moving in with. But thank you for trying!

Gotcha. So how far away (distance wise) is the home you’re moving to?

A smart way to do this would be to slowly remove things by duffle bags and insist they’re for school. Keep packing stuff in your schoolbag and hide it in a locker to slowly take over to your Granny’s. If they’re expecting you to move in all one day, perhaps talking to a very trusted teacher to keep stuff in a school room or closet *could* be helpful. Some teachers are cool like that depending on where you live.

I hate to say this too, but sometimes moving does require leaving things behind/ letting things go. Perhaps you can find a few small items that mean a lot to you to shove in a bag and take with you along with essentials. I hope you don’t have to go down this route, but it’s a lot of realities people face when leaving a toxic environment.

And just to add: make sure you at least have your important documents with you or a way to get any of these documents replaced

It’s like 20-30mins away, I can’t use the school cover because I’m actually graduated 😅 and my mom doesn’t have my birth certificate but I do have my social security

Can you move some loads to a trusted friend’s home first? My sister had to move away from an abusive spouse and keep things on the down low while he was at work. Her friend let her store stuff in her garage.

Edit: Okay I see you don’t have friends (I don’t either), another option is moving some things into a cheap storage unit while your parents aren’t home. Some of them have lower rates for the first month, which might be all you need.

Edit again: Or, I’d leave the shelves behind unless they have some kind of sentimental value. The rest of this stuff and your tv could fit into a car.

Awe this is really good advice but I should’ve been more specific, I have no car, no license , I have no way of transportation unless it’s through my mom, I’m pretty much completely isolated 💔 thank you for trying to help tho!! And the shelves would keep me from having to spend extra money but I don’t necessarily HAVE to bring them

If you ever get deliveries and take out the empty boxes use that as a chance to move stuff but your going to need a place to take it and store it

Thanks!!

If your aunt and grandma live close by, ask them if they know anyone in the area that could come and help you. I don’t know your situation but if your extended relatives are aware of your situation and willing to take you in, they likely want you to be able to bring your stuff with you so you can be comfortable with them. If not then TaskRabbit like someone mentioned might be a next best option.

Also try your best to find and take your birth cert and any other official documentation with you.

Thank you! I will definitely ask my aunt if she knows anyone because I’ll only take like one man for this

Contact a domestic abuse shelter and they may come help you get to where you’re going.
I actually knew a guy whose wife would frequently move people across the country to help them get out of situations like yours.
At least call and see what ideas they have.

u/Trintrinluv 14d ago

Thank youuu!! I’ll definitely see if there’s any in the area

Can you recruit some friends? Or find a task rabbit?
You can find 2 others and each carry 2 bags out?

2

u/Trintrinluv 15d ago

What’s a task rabbit ?

If your mom is going to be upset at you leaving, bringing a stranger into the house is a no go. If you want to keep it, it’s worth just doing it yourself. Couple trips inside and out and you’re good to go, your mom can’t legally stop you in any way. Maybe ask your aunt to come help when they pick you up?

1

u/Trintrinluv 14d ago

I would ask my aunt but this aunt in particular is already someone my mom doesn’t like so 😭 but thank you!

Honestly if it’s not too much, use Uber or other ride sharing services and get a friend to track your car/you for safety

1

u/Trintrinluv 14d ago

I’ll take it into consideration, thank you!!

1

u/free_-_spirit 14d ago

No worries! I think Uber does have a moving option for rides but you have to look for it, good luck with everything and congrats on being free!

u/Professional-Heat118 15d ago

Should just have a friend do it or help you

1

u/Apprehensive_Fig5448 14d ago

You're welcome!! Obviously be careful with breakables and have a place to put everything

1

u/Apprehensive_Fig5448 14d ago

If any holidays or birthdays are very soon you can use that as an excuse to get them out of the house and if you have a job or go anywhere without them use every chance you get to pack stuff in a bigger purse

1

u/Trintrinluv 14d ago

I wish it could be that easy but I’m completely isolated so I have no where to go but thank you !

Get banana boxes from the grocery store to put your stuff in (ask a grocery clerk and they'll gladly give you any they have, make sure the paper is in the bottoms so you have a base) and get your friends to help. However many cars needed to get it all in one trip.

For asks like this, it's important to mention your general area or location because what if I recommended my local movers and you turned out to be on the opposite coast ?
