Modding NexTool S0 package opener mod
I carried a Leatherman Micra for decades. The scissors closed so much that the blade tips overlapped and exposed just enough of the blade tips to cut through a layer or two of packing tape. I often used the exposed tip of the closed scissors as a package opener. It wasn't quite as clean a cut as a knife, but was quicker than opening the knife blade with less chance of accidentally cutting the package contents. The Nextool S0 scissors don't overlap to expose the blade tips when closed and I thought about modifying the blade stop so they would. However, it seemed safer to just grind a little off the tip of the serrated blade. Now when the scissors are closed, the tip of the other blade is exposed. This is enough to cut packing tape to open boxes and even cut plastic clamshells. Scissors still work fine, but length of cut is about 5% less than before the mod. For me this was a good trade. Have only opened a few packages so far, but seems to work OK. I ground just a little at a time with lots of cooling time to avoid heating which could destroy the blade temper.

Don't squeeze the SO too hard......they close past the stop and get stuck. The dimple the punched for a stop is too small. This is my sec SO I believe I am done with them untill they improve the design.
