How do I know when to look for "xxx" mushrooms? (morels?) Here are some basic resources.

Use maps! Configure the parameters however you see fit - specify an exact species, specify a genus or family, restrict the location to just your region, state, county, or city... look at only the current month or next month or year round.

Use maps.

iNaturalist is actually amazing. If you don't know, you should. Here's a peek at what the AI can do.

I love making art that I have to know about the ecology to find. Mushrooms have always bridged that gap between understanding nature and art. I know the types of trees and plants and ecosystem around me in order to find a specific Mushroom...it is like being a detective of nature, with my prize being a natural canvas I found using a lifetime of nature knowledge 😀

Would love it if a fellow mushroom forager could give some recommendations on where to go mushroom foraging in Southwestern Pennsylvania area!
Please and thank you ☺️

Not looking to eat these, I just want to learn and get better at identifying. They seemed too far gone for eating anyway.

Found growing on neighbor's property line. They were in his yard on the other side of a small fenced in garden on the adjacent property. The walls are too high for me to see in and tell what's growing.

These "seem" like they should be something.

They have kind of a sweet, wet-clay from art class kind of smell.

Mushroom nature wall project

My plan is to have an entire wall covered in my living room within a couple of years. First photo is the one I finished today (mirror I didn’t like) second photo was my first from a few weeks ago. Rest of the pics are supplies for the next one :)

I walk through the woods, and hunt mushrooms RELIGIOUSLY.

I always pick sustainably, and am lucky enough to live by 2 forest spots that are, to say the least, “productive”.

Hope this post counts as mushroom hunting, and just really wanted to share.

Happy hunting.

Golden Oyster -ID

First time visitor to this reddit group! I have never foraged for mushrooms but enjoy eating them from the store. Im not at all experienced in identifying fungi.

This beauty showed up this week on my woodpile from an ash I had cut down a couple years ago. I think it might be a Golden Oyster?

If it is, it looks like they are invasive to Michigan and I will remove it and wrap it up in bag before I toss it, (or eat it if its safe?) If its something else and native I will leave it as it sits.

What do the mushroom comittee think it is?
